چکیده

A scheme for binaural pre-processing of speech signals for input to a standard linear hearing aid has been proposed. The system is based on that of Toner & Campbell [1] who applied the Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm in sub-bands to speech signals from various acoustic environments and signal to noise ratios (SNR). The processing scheme attempts to take advantage of the multiple inputs to perform noise cancellation. The use of sub-bands enables a diverse processing mechanism to be employed, where the wideband signal is split into smaller frequency limited subbands, which can subsequently be processed according to their signal characteristics. The results of a series of intelligibility tests are presented from experiments in which acoustic speech and noise data, generated in a simulated room was tested on hearing impaired volunteers.

Intelligibility improvements using binaural diverse sub - band processing applied to speech corrupted with automobile noise

The paper reports on experiments assessing the capability of a diverse processing, multi-microphone sub-band adaptive (MMSBA) signal processing scheme for improving the intelligibility of speech corrupted with automobile noise. Results from formal listening tests demonstrate a significant improvement in the intelligibility and quality of the processed speech. Spoken digits corrupted with automo...

Intelligibility improvements using diverse sub-band processing applied to noisy speech

The paper presents the results of a series of experiments to assess the capability of a multi-microphone sub-band adaptive (MMSBA) signal processing scheme for improving the intelligibility of speech corrupted with noise recorded in an automobile. The noise corrupted speech signals were presented to 15 normal hearing volunteer subjects at various SNRs, and numbers and distributions of sub-bands...

Noise reduction results of an adaptive filtering technique for dual-microphone behind-the-ear hearing aids.

OBJECTIVE The performance of an adaptive beam-former in a 2-microphone, behind-the-ear hearing aid for speech understanding in noisy environments was evaluated. Physical and perceptual evaluations were carried out. This was the first large-scale test of a wearable real-time implementation of this algorithm. The main perceptual research questions of this study were related to the influence on th...
