چکیده

Based on seismic reflections and detrital composition analysis as well as cluster analysis, a multi-provenance depositional model of the Upper Fourth Member of the Shahejie Formation was proposed considering the paleo-gully sedimentation controlled by well Y920 in the east of the northern abrupt slope belt in Dongying depression. The result shows that the paleogeomorphology of the Y920 gully develops asymmetrically as abrupt in the west yet gentle in the east during this period. The seismic facies can be divided into two types: the west of the gully is dominated by the wedge-shape reflections, while the east is dominated by progradational reflections. And these two types are separated by the lens-shape reflections in the middle. The detrital composition planar distribution of the sand filling of the gully varies greatly: the west has a low content of quartz and a high content of rock fragment mainly in the type of volcanic; while the east has a relatively high abundance in both the feldspar and the rock fragment mainly in the type of metamorphic detritus; and in the central part the proportions of feldspar and quartz are overwhelming yet the content of detritus mainly in the type of limestone is low. There are three provenances for the Y920 gully including the northern one which provides sediments southward along the long axis and the western and the eastern ones on either side of the gully along the short axis. Thus, the nearshore subaqueous fan and fan delta mainly develop on the west and the east sides respectively.

Use of feldspar grains in provenance determination and the study of transportation and depositional history, examples from central and NW Iran

Feldspar grains, as a significant provenance indicator, of two terrigenous formations from Central Iran, the Upper Red Formation, and Moghan area, Zivah Formation, are used for provenance determination and the study of transportation and depositional history. The Upper Red Formation (URF) is volumetrically the most important siliciclastic unit of the Central Iran and Zivah Formation (ZF) repres...

Petrography, Major and Trace Elemental Geochemistry of the Ordovician-Silurian Siliciclastics in North of Tabas Block, Central Iran: Implications for Provenance and Paleogeography

The upper part of Shirgesht (UPS) and lower part of Niur (LPN) formations (Ordovician-Silurian) consist of sandstone, shale and limestone, respectively. The petrography and geochemical analysis conducted to evaluate provenance of siliciclastic deposits in order to understand the paleogeography of Central Iran during the Early Paleozoic time. This study shows that quartz and K-feldspar are the m...

Determining the Factors affecting on the geometry of Gully Erosion (Case study: Darrehshahr, Ilam)

One of the types of water erosion and land degradation which causes imbalance in the area of natural resources and agricultural land and gives heavy losses, is the gully erosion phenomenon. To control this phenomenon, It is important to understand the influence factors on the geometry specification. Land degradation, a broken ecological balance of the land and landscape and risk of falling at b...

Investigation of Gully Erosion by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process Model Case study: Roudbar, Gilan Province, Iran

Gully erosion is one of the geomophological phenomenon that causes numerous losses to farmland, rangeland, roads, and increased sediment rate. Recognition of the causes and modeling gully erosion has an important role in watershed management, which aids in preventing the destruction of lands in sustainable development. In this research, a gully erosion map was prepared with the use of airp...

Neogene-Quaternary contourite and related deposition on the West Shetland Slope and Faeroe-Shetland Channel revealed by high-resolution seismic studies

The Neogene and Quaternary sediments of the Faeroe-Shetland Channel and West Shetland shelf and slope rest upon a major regional unconformity, the Latest Oligocene Unconformity (LOU), and have been deposited through the interaction of downslope and parallel-to-slope depositional processes. The upper to middle continental slope is dominated by mass-transport deposits (debris flows), which progre...
