چکیده

The wireless medium must be effectively shared in an ad hoc network. The multihop nature of the network demands it, with packets often requiring several transmissions in order to reach their destination. This paper describes a mechanism for improving the IEEE 802.11 MAC specifically for ad hoc networks. The Forward Focus mechanism uses the forwarding nature itself to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the forwarding process. A simulation-based performance evaluation reveals that the approach can yield significant improvements in network throughput.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Forward focus: using routing information to improve medium access control in ad hoc networks

Multihop packet forwarding is a vital process in an ad hoc network. All ad hoc networking protocols, but particularly routing and medium access control protocols, must work together in order for the network to be successful. However, current MAC protocols such as IEEE 802.11 do not consider this multihop nature at all. This work develops a modification to 802.11 that focuses on forwarding packe...

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Survey the Security Function of Integration of vehicular ad hoc Networks with Software-defiend Networks

In recent years, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have emerged as one of the most active areas in the field of technology to provide a wide range of services, including road safety, passenger's safety, amusement facilities for passengers and emergency facilities. Due to the lack of flexibility, complexity and high dynamic network topology, the development and management of current Vehicular A...

Broadcast Services and Topology Control in Ad-Hoc Networks

The design of effective Medium Access Control protocol for ad hoc network is a highly challenging task due to the characteristics of such networks. The medium is shared and unreliable by definition, thus the access mechanism should be robust to channel errors and collisions. Furthermore, all the coordination functions must be totally distributed in a pure ad hoc environment. In this paper we ad...
