A comparative acoustic study of spontaneous and read Italian speech
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents an acoustic study of spontaneous and read Italian speech based on the analysis of monologues and corresponding read transcribed texts, each produced by three different subjects. The speaking styles were examined in terms of articulation, speech, fluency and word rate indices; typology of pauses and their cooccurrence; mean and range of F0 values; classification of phonetic events resulting from adjacency of vowels situated at word boundaries.

A comparison of read and spontaneous children2s speech recognition
This paper presents comparative analyses, and recognition experiments, on read and spontaneous Italian speech collected from children. The presented analyses focus on linguistic variations, variations in phone duration, and the scattering of phones in the acoustic space. The aim of these analyses is to achieve a better understanding of acoustic and linguistic difference between read and spontan...
متن کاملProsody for Mandarin speech recognition: a comparative study of read and spontaneous speech
In this paper, we present a comparative study between spontaneous speech and read Mandarin speech in the context of automatic speech recognition. We focus on analysis and modeling of prosodic features, based on a unique speech corpus that contains similar amounts of read and spontaneous speech data from the same group of speakers. Statistical analysis is carried out on tone contours and duratio...
متن کاملA Preliminary Study on Silent Pauses in Mandarin Expressive Speech
Pause is not only one of the cues of prosodic structure for running speech, but also one of the strategies used by speakers to express their emotions. In this paper, we investigated the silent pauses in read and spontaneous speech, neutral and expressive speech, as well as synthesized speech, trying to find the difference of silent pause patterns in different speech styles. It was observed that...
متن کاملComparative Study of the Baum-Welch and Viterbi Training Algorithms Applied to Read and Spontaneous Speech Recognition
In this paper we compare the performance of acoustic HMMs obtained through Viterbi training with that of acoustic HMMs obtained through the Baum-Welch algorithm. We present recognition results for discrete and continuous HMMs, for read and spontaneous speech databases, acquired at 8 and 16 kHz. We also present results for a combination of Viterbi and Baum-Welch training, intended as a trade-off...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Gender and Age Classification in Speech Signals
Accurate gender classification is useful in speech and speaker recognition as well as speech emotion classification, because a better performance has been reported when separate acoustic models are employed for males and females. Gender classification is also apparent in face recognition, video summarization, human-robot interaction, etc. Although gender classification is rather mature in a...
