چکیده

A major reason for the departure of core level X-ray photoelectron spectra ~XPS! of transition metal cations in oxides from the predictions of atomic models is shown to arise from ligand field splittings in the initial state of photoemission. This splitting often leads to a change in the spatial degeneracy of the initial state but the consequences of this for XPS have not been explicitly identified in prior work. Further changes arise from ligand field splittings in the core-hole final states. Results are reported for non-empirical, cluster model many body wavefunctions for the 3p XPS of Cr2O3 . The agreement of the theoretical cluster model XPS with experiment is considerably improved over the pure atomic model. Furthermore, the treatment allows screening of the core hole through changes in the covalent character of the cluster orbitals. This is quite different from the usual description of screening in oxides within the framework of charge transfer configurations and it offers new insights into the role of charge transfer for satellite structure.

Deconvoluted Si 2p Photoelectron Spectra of Ultra thin SiO2 film with FitXPS method

The main impetus for our research is provided by the growing interest worldwide in ultra thin silicon dioxide on silicon based nano devices. The obvious need for better knowledge in the ultra thin gate silicon dioxides, is motivated both by interests in fundamental research and phenomenology as well as by interests in possible applications, which can be found with better fitting of experimental...

Atomic many-body effects for the p-shell photoelectron spectra of transition metals.

Ab initio theoretical results for the 2p- and 3p-hole states of an Mn(2+) ion are reported in order to determine the importance of atomic contributions to the photoelectron spectra of bulk MnO. A combined treatment of relativity and electron correlation reveals important physical effects that have been neglected in virtually all previous work. The many-body and relativistic effects included in ...

Ground states, excited states, and metal-ligand bonding in rare earth hexachloro complexes: a DFT-based ligand field study.

Metal (4f)-ligand (Cl 3p) bonding in LnCl(6)(3-) (Ln = Ce to Yb) complexes has been studied on the basis of 4f-->4f and Cl,3p-->4f charge-transfer spectra and on the analysis of these spectra within the valence bond configuration interaction model to show that mixing of Cl 3p into the Ln 4f ligand field orbitals does not exceed 1%. Contrary to this, Kohn-Sham formalism of density functional the...

Single-photon and resonance-enhanced multiphoton threshold ionization of the allyl radical.

Pulsed-field-ionization zero-kinetic-energy photoelectron spectra of jet-cooled allyl radical (C(3)H(5)) have been recorded following single-photon and resonant multiphoton excitation. Simulations based on an orbital ionization model and rovibronic photoionization selection rules reliably describe the observed intensity distributions in the photoelectron spectra obtained from single-photon exci...

Excitation energy dependence for the Li 1s X-ray photoelectron spectra of LiMn2O4.

The Li 1s XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) spectra of LiMn2O4, which is one of the major positive-electrode materials in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and MnO2 as a reference material, were measured by a laboratory-type XPS spectrometer. The Li 1s peak was not observed in the spectra excited by the Mg Kalpha line (1253.6 eV), because the Li 1s peak overlapped the background of the M...
