A Spatio-Frequency Trade-Off Scale for Scale-Space Filtering
نویسنده
چکیده
ÐWe study implementation issues for spatial convolution filters and their Fourier alternative, with the aim to optimize the accuracy of filter output. We focus on Gaussian scale-space filters and show that there exists a trade-off scale that subdivides the available scale range into two subintervals of equal length. Below this trade-off scale Fourier filtering yields more accurate results than spatial filtering; above it is the other way around. This should be contrasted with demands of computational speed, which show the opposite tenet. Index TermsÐScale-space filtering, temporal versus frequency aliasing, timefrequency trade-off scale.

Spatio-Frequency Analysis of Scale-Space Filtering
We study implementation issues for spatial convolution lters and their Fourier alternative, with the aim to optimise the accuracy of lter output. We focus on Gaussian scale-space lters and show that there exists a trade-o scale that subdivides the available scale range in the sense that the smaller and larger scales are best extracted by Fourier, respectively spatial ltering.
متن کاملApplication of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation
Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...
متن کاملA Realistic Large-Scale Model of the Cerebellum Granular Layer Predicts Circuit Spatio-Temporal Filtering Properties
The way the cerebellar granular layer transforms incoming mossy fiber signals into new spike patterns to be related to Purkinje cells is not yet clear. Here, a realistic computational model of the granular layer was developed and used to address four main functional hypotheses: center-surround organization, time-windowing, high-pass filtering in responses to spike bursts and coherent oscillatio...
متن کاملImage filtering via generalized scale
In medical imaging, low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and/or contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) often cause many image processing algorithms to perform poorly. Postacquisition image filtering is an important off-line image processing approach widely employed to enhance the SNR and CNR. A major drawback of many filtering techniques is image degradation by diffusing/blurring edges and/or fine structures...
متن کاملSource Time Scale and Optimal Buffer/Bandwidth Trade-Off for Regulated Traffic in an ATM Node
In this paper, we study the problem of resource allocation and control for an ATM node with regulated traffic. Both guaranteed lossless service and statistical service with small loss probability are considered. We investigate the relationship between source characteristics and the buffer/bandwidth trade-off under both services. Our contributions are the following. For guaranteed lossless servi...
