چکیده

Forensic science has been slow to develop as a recognised field of study. Over the past 30 years, analytical and forensic science have developed together; though the application of new analytical techniques in forensic work is retarded by the necessity of having methods of proven reliability. The many techniques now applied in forensic analysis—microscopy, spectroscopy of all types, x-ray analysis, neutron-activation analysis, chromatography, etc.—are surveyed and illustrated by examples. The examination of documents is discussed in some detail. The determination of blood alcohol is mentioned with particular reference to breath-alcohol tests and behavioural comparisons. The similar problems that are encountered by analytical and forensic scientists are

Forensic science testing: The forensic filler-control method for controlling contextual bias, estimating error rates, and calibrating analysts’ reports

A large share of forensic science techniques involving the analyis of physical evidence have never been validated scientifically. The ational Academy of Sciences (NAS, 2009) concluded that, with the xception of nuclear DNA analysis, no forensic method has been rigrously shown to consistently and with a high degree of certainty emonstrate a connection between evidence and a specific indiidual or...

Examination, Analysis, and Application of Hair in Forensic Science - Animal Hair.

This article reviews the examination of animal hairs and their role in the forensic arena. The forensic examination of animal hair is a well-established discipline and has been so for two centuries. Examination is largely based on microscopy, which may enable the hair analyst to identify a hair as animal in origin, to characterize the hair to a particular species, and to conduct comparative exa...

Nuclear forensics--a methodology providing clues on the origin of illicitly trafficked nuclear materials.

Reports on seizures of nuclear material (i.e., uranium or plutonium) and of radioactive sources continue to attract the attention of the public and are a reason for concern due to the hazard associated with such material. Once the material has been detected and secured, the questions on the intended use, the radiological hazard and the origin of the material need to be answered. Classical foren...

Analysis of ethyl and methyl centralite vibrational spectra for mapping organic gunshot residues.

Detection of ethyl and methyl centralites in gunshot residues is important in forensic science due to their limited contamination from environmental sources compared to other organic residues. However, the vibrational frequencies of centralites are little explored and their frequency assignments are incomplete. Herein, we investigated vibrational frequencies of centralites based on Density func...
