چکیده

UMTS receivers are mobile devices, which should have a low energy consumption and operates in a frequently changing environment. The idea of this paper is to adapt the amount of signal processing for the reception within an UMTS mobile to this changing environment. In this way the amount of signal processing can be decreased for a good channel to decrease the energy consumption and for a bad channel the signal processing can be increased to guarantee a minimum Quality of Service for the signal. Due to space limitation, this paper only describes the approach. For full details see [1].

On the Coexistence of Satellite-umts and Galileo with Sdr Receiver

In the last years, the tendency to have a reconfigurable receiver able to offer more than one service at the same time is growing. The receiver must be able, in general, to treat together different signals (i.e. in terms of bandwidth, modulation, received power) without any augmentation of costs of the mobile terminal. The purpose of this paper is to analyse an integration method for positionin...

Energy-Efficient Wireless Communication for Mobile Multimedia Terminals

This paper presents a control system that adapts a WCDMA receiver at run-time to minimize the energy consumption while providing an adequate Quality of Service (QoS). The adaptation is done at run-time, because of the dynamic environment of a mobile receiver. Simulations show that run-time adaptation to the environment decreases the energy consumption of a receiver and also improves other QoS p...

A performance adjustable and reconfigurable CDMA receiver concept for UMTS-FDD

Currently most of the terminals for UMTS-FDD implement a simple Rake receiver. This paper shows how the Rake, including despreading and descrambling, could be replaced by a least squares receiver that can be implemented on a Cordic based hardware architecture. The performance in conjunction with the computational requirements of the receiver is widely adjustable. Simulation results show that th...

Reconfigurable Baseband ASSP for Dual Mode UMTS / WLAN 802 . 11 b Receiver

In this paper, an application specific signal processor (ASSP) for dual mode baseband processing of UMTS and WLAN 802.11b signals is presented. Although both mobile communication standards are based on direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) technology, there are substantial differences in the signal processing algorithms that have to be realized. For this reason, the presented approach is main...

Architectures and protocols for mobile computing applications: a reconfigurable approach

This work deals with reconfigurable control functions and protocols for supporting mobile computing applications in heterogeneous wireless systems like cellular networks and WLANs. The control functions are implemented in a software module, named Reconfigurable Access module for MObile computiNg applications (RAMON), placed in mobile and/or base stations. RAMON operates on abstract models of th...
