چکیده

Studies have shown that cyclooxygenase (Cox) enzymes and E-cadherin have roles in ovarian cancer like many other cancers (Ali-Fehmi et al., 2005; Zahou et al., 2007). E-cadherin is expressed in epithelial cells and participates their differentiated functions and intercellular adhesion. Reduction or loss of E-cadherin expression represents transition from epithelial to mesothelial characteristics (Faleiro-Rodrigues et el., 2004; Brouxhon et al., 2007), which may be a step in carcinogenesis, invasion, or metastasis. On the contrary, increased Cox expression accompanies carcinogenesis and increased invasion (Gupta et al., 2003; Ali-Fehm et al., 2005). Based on their previously defined roles in carcinogenesis, the relation of E-cadherin and Cox enzymes in terms of carcinogenesis and invasion has been suggested in many cancers such as the lungs, bladder, kidneys, gastric, and colon (Chen et al., 2004; Jang et al.,2009). Cox-2 inhibition leads to increase E-cadherin expression and this relation was suggested as the target of newly developed therapies (Chen et al., 2004; Rao et al., 2006; Okamato et al., 2008; Jang et al.,2009). Despite these studies performed on other cancers, roles of these

Prognostic Values of Estrogen and Progesterone Expression Receptors in Ovarian Papillary Serous Carcinoma

Background and Objectives: Presence of steroid hormone receptors (estrogen and progesterone) in the tumor tissues of various organs correlates with response to therapy and prognosis. Since their role in ovarian cancer is still controversial, in this study we investigated the expression and prognostic value of the estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) in ovarian papillary ser...

تعیین سطح بیان ژن‌های E-cadherin و Vimentin در نمونه‌های توموری بیماران مبتلا به سرطان تخمدان

Background: Ovarian cancer is a leading metastatic disease. The epithelial ovarian cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers that usually remains asymptomatic up to metastasis stages, and most patient when diagnosed are in the advanced stage of the disease. Studies have shown that in the majority of epithelial cancers mesenchymal factor expression such as Vimentin increases, and the ep...

Mitochondrial mRNA transcripts predict overall survival, tumor recurrence and progression in serous ovarian cancer: Companion diagnostics for cancer therapy

Here, we performed a systematic analysis to discover new biomarkers of overall survival and tumor progression in ovarian cancer patients. More specifically, we determined whether nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes related to mitochondrial biogenesis and function are effective in predicting clinical outcome in ovarian cancer. As a consequence, we are able to provide in silico validation of the ...

Wnt5a influences viability, migration, adhesion, colony formation, E- and N-cadherin expression of human ovarian cancer cell line SKOV-3.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells express Wnt5a, but its role in ovarian cancer progression is poorly defined. The aims of the present study were two-fold: 1) to determine the Wnt5a role in viability, apoptosis, migration, colony formation and adhesion of human serous epithelial ovarian cancer cell line SKOV-3, and 2) to assess the relationship of Wnt5a with E- and N-cadherin in high- and l...

Immunoexpression of beta-catenin--E-cadherin complex in primary serous ovarian tumors.

Ovarian cancer takes a fourth place as cause of death from all cancers and a first place from gynecologic malignancies in Poland. Up to now, relatively little is known about immunohistochemical markers accepted as prognostic indicators for ovarian cancers. Recent investigations took a note of prognostic significance of catenin-cadherin adhesion complex and Ki-67 proliferation protein in serous ...
