چکیده

It was observed by us in the dissection hall that arteria profunda femoris, the largest and most important branch of the femoral artery, presents a good deal of variations regarding its origin and distribution in various individuals, and this led us to the detailed study of this artery in one hundred thighs in the Anatomy Department of the Medical College, Amritsar. The usually described course of the profunda femoris artery is that, arising from the lateral aspect of the femoral artery about 4 cm. below the inguinal ligament within the femoral triangle, the artery at first runs along the femoral artery on its lateral aspect, gradually inclining medially, reaches the medial side of the femur where at the upper border of the adductor longus it gets separated from the femoral artery by passing behind this muscle. Now it inclines laterally, coming into close relationship with the linea aspera at the back of the femur, ending at the lower one-third of the thigh in a small branch which pierces the adductor magnus and anastomoses with the muscular branches of the popliteal artery in the popliteal fossa. As the artery runs down, it is lying in front of the iliacus, pectineus, adductor brevis and magnus muscles. Within the femoral triangle it is related anteriorly to the profunda vein and femoral vessels. At the apex of the femoral triangle it gets separated from its parent trunk by passing deep to the adductor longus.

False aneurysm after intramedullary nailing of the femur.

False aneurysm is a rare cause of non-union of a fracture. Reports have recently been published by Bassett and Houck (1964), Dameron (1964) and Meyer and Slager (1964), in which injury to the arteria profunda femoris or its branches complicated the insertion of screws across the femoral shaft and resulted in the development of false aneurysm. The case reported here complicated intramedullary na...

Origin of profunda femoris artery and its circumflex femoral branches: anatomical variations and clinical significance.

BACKGROUND Knowledge of the anatomical variations of the profunda femoris artery and its circumflex branches is important during angiographic diagnostic procedures as well as during performing surgery in the femoral region. The aim of this study was to examine the original sites, distances and variations of the profunda femoris artery and its circumflex branches. MATERIALS AND METHODS The stu...

Variations in the origins of the profunda femoris, medial and lateral femoral circumflex arteries: a cadaver study in the Indian population.

Femoral artery is frequently accessed by radiologists and surgeons. Anatomical knowledge of the variations of femoral artery and its branches including profunda femoris, medial and lateral femoral circumflex arteries is required to minimize complications and hence it is suggested for the clinicians planning surgery and intervention around the aforementioned vessels. Present study was undertaken...

Variations in the origin of profunda femoris and circumflex femoral arteries: A cadaveric study

Introduction: Profunda femoris artery (PFA) normally originates from posterolateral aspect of femoral artery and circumflex arteries arise from profunda femoris artery near its origin. As femoral artery (FA) & PFA are commonly assessed for various procedures for diagnosis and treatment for many diseases, knowledge of its course and branching pattern is very important for clinicians to prevent c...

The Anatomical Investigation of the Arcus Aortae in Persian Squirrel (Sciurus Anomalus)

Introduction: The Persian Squirrel (Sciurus anomalus) is the only member of the Sciuridae family found in the Middle East. Some people maintain them as pets, thus their referrals to veterinary hospitals has been increased recently. Several morphological studies have been carried out mainly on the arch of aorta and its branches in common rodents, small mammals, and domestic a...
