The speculum bites back: feminists spark an inquiry into the treatment of carcinoma in situ at Auckland's National Women's Hospital.

چکیده
Synopsis – Feminist health activists Sandra Coney and Phillida Bunkle researched and exposed an experiment carried out by Professor Herbert Green at National Women’s Hospital (NWH), Auckland New Zealand, involving inadequate treatment of women with carcinoma in situ. Green believed that CIS was not a precursor to invasive cancer. A public inquiry vindicated the claims of Coney and Bunkle and showed the inadequacy of many treatment and research procedures at NWH. It also demonstrated the widespread effect of Green’s opposition to a national cervical screening programme in the face of international evidence that screening reduces the incidence of cervical cancer. Three publications that followed the Inquiry, show how medical power was demonstrated in the events and attitudes exposed.

متن کاملIn-situ Fabrication of Transparent Magnesium Aluminate Spinel by Spark Plasma Sintering
Transparent polycrystalline spinel ceramic was fabricated without any sintering aids by spark plasma sintering method of a mixture of Al2O3 and MgO powders for only 10min soak at 1250°C. Densification, microstructure and optical transparency of spinel were examined. The spinel exhibits an in-line transmission of 55% for a visible-wavelength of 470nm and high hardness value of 2040 HV.
متن کاملHigh-Grade Urothelial Carcinoma of Bladder Transforming to Micropapillary Variant on Follow-Up
Micropapillary variant of urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the bladder is an aggressive tumour, comprising 0.6-6% of all UC. It generally presents with high-grade and stage, and has been reported as having a worse prognosis when compared to traditional UC. We report the case of a 58-year-old man who presented with macroscopic haematuria. The patient was diagnosed with high-grade urothelial carcinom...
متن کاملIn-situ reactive synthesis of full dense Si2N2O by incorporating of Amourphous nanosized Si3N4;effect of MgO and Y2O3
Si2N2O is considered as a new great potential structural/functional candidate in place of Si3N4. The amorphous Si3N4 nanopowder was incorporated into silica sol by adding of MgO and Y2O3 as sintering aid. Synthesized powders were heated by spark plasma sintering at a heating rate of 100 oC/min yielded fully dense compacts at 1550 and 1750 oC for 40 min. The phase formation of samples was charac...

Lymphoepithelial - like carcinoma, is rarely recognized in the urinary bladder and less commonly occurs with papillary transitional cell carcinoma i.e. mixed pattern. Also, less uncommon is the occurrence of carcinoma in situ changes in the adjacent urothelium of these tumors. Here, a case of lymphoepithelial – like carcinoma and papillary transitional cell carcinoma associated with carci...
