Complete remission of childhood-onset epilepsy: stability and prediction over two decades.

The ultimate seizure outcome of childhood epilepsy is complete resolution of all seizures without further treatment. How often this happens and how well it can be predicted early in the course of epilepsy could be valuable in helping families understand the nature of childhood epilepsy and what to expect over time. In the Connecticut study of epilepsy, a prospective cohort of 613 children with ...

Natural history of treated childhood-onset epilepsy: prospective, long-term population-based study.

It is not well known how often drug resistance, a major clinical problem, occurs early or late in the course of epilepsy and how often epilepsy follows a continuous, remitting or relapsing-remitting pattern. Honing in on risk factors for prolonged remission off medication by reducing heterogeneity.

Commentary The study by Berg et al. presents the risk and risk factors for complete remission in children without electroclinical syndromes, developmental encephalopathies, and potential electroclinical syndromes that could not be well classified who were observed for at least 10 years. Such nonsyndromic epilepsy represents almost 60% of childhood-onset epilepsy. Taking this interesting approac...
