چکیده

This paper presents the study and simulation of IQ impairments influence in a Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter architecture. The context is the transmission of OFDM signals such as IEEE 802.11a. The transmitter architecture is considered in two cases : a classical reference case such as homodyne for example and a linearised case, based on the EER (Envelope Elimination and Restoration) or polar architecture. EER was considered here because it provides an interesting high efficiency multi-standard transmitter architecture solution for actual digital communications high data rate standards. Equations are derived in the case of emission and reception of an OFDM signal with N sub-carriers and simulations are performed to confirm the theoretical results. Conclusions are given concerning the impact of IQ impairments on the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) for both architecture cases.

Efficient Compensation of Transmitter and Receiver IQ Imbalance in OFDM Systems

Radio frequency impairments such as in-phase/quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalances can result in a severe performance degradation in direct-conversion architecture-based communication systems. In this paper, we consider the case of transmitter and receiver IQ imbalance together with frequency selective channel distortion. The proposed training-based schemes can decouple the compensation of transmitt...

Performance Analysis of Zero-IF MIMO OFDM Transceivers with IQ Imbalance

This contribution analytically studies the influence of IQ mismatch on the performance of multiple-antenna orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems based on the zero-IF architecture. First a system model for such a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM system experiencing both transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) IQ imbalance is derived. This is used to obtain analytical exp...

Envelope and Phase delays correction in an EER radio architecture

This article deals with synchronization in the Envelope Elimination and Restoration (EER) type of transmitter architecture. To illustrate the performances of such solution, we choose to apply this architecture to a 64 carriers 16QAM modulated OFDM. We first introduce the problematic of the realisation of a highly linear transmitter. We then present the Envelope Elimination and Restoration solut...

Performance of Mimo Ofdm Systems in Fading Channels with Additive Tx and Rx Impairments

The performance of OFDM based systems is seriously affected by imperfections in system implementation. To gain a beter understanding of the influence of these impairments on the performance of multiple antenna OFDM systems, this paper studies a zero-forcing based MIMO OFDM system with imperfections modeled as additive error sources in both transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX). Based on this model...

Channel Estimation and CFO Compensation in OFDM System Using Adaptive Filters in Wavelet Transform Domain

Abstarct In this paper, combination of channel, receiver frequency-dependent IQ imbalance and carrier frequency offset estimation under short cyclic prefix (CP) length are considered in OFDM system. An adaptive algorithm based on the set-membership filtering (SMF) algorithm is used to compensate for these impairments. In short CP length, per-tone equalization (PTEQ) structure is used to avoid i...
