چکیده

We present new methods to optimise industrial computed tomography (CT) scanning process. The methods were applied on CT systems— with high-energy X-ray tube sources (.400 keV)—using cross-sectional images for volume digitalisation. Commonly the distances between all cross-sectional slices for volume data acquiring are constant. We developed a new adaptive CT scanning method, which optimises the location of the cross-sectional images with respect to object geometry. The optimisation strategy depends on the statistical evaluation of object mesh models (e.g. STL from CAD). We developed a software prototype that implements the new methods. First tests, applied on commercial objects, lead to a reduction in number of necessary slices of up to 50%. The accuracy of the digital volume model formed by the adaptive scanning method is comparable to the one retrieved by the equidistant scanning method. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Segmentation of X-ray computed tomography images of porous materials: A crucial step for characterization and quantitative analysis of pore structures

[1] Nondestructive imaging methods such as X-ray computed tomography (CT) yield high-resolution, three-dimensional representations of pore space and fluid distribution within porous materials. Steadily increasing computational capabilities and easier access to X-ray CT facilities have contributed to a recent surge in microporous media research with objectives ranging from theoretical aspects of...

Impact of Photon Spectra on the Sensitivity of Polymer Gel Dosimetry by X-Ray Computed Tomography

Introduction: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of X-ray spectra on the sensitivity of a polymer gel dosimeter imaged with a conventional computed tomography (CT) scanner. Material and Methods: The whole process of CT imaging of an irradiated polymer gel was simulated by MCNPX Monte Carlo (MC) code. The imaging of polyacrylamide gel was accomplished by means of a co...

Shearlet-Based Adaptive Noise Reduction in CT Images

The noise in reconstructed slices of X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) is of unknown distribution, non-stationary, oriented and difficult to distinguish from main structural information. This requires the development of special post-processing methods based on the local statistical evaluation of the noise component. This paper presents an adaptive method of reducing noise in CT images employing th...
