چکیده

Background To determine patient priority and degree of urgency with an objective high-quality evaluation, general Point of Care testing (POCT) was established as a novel facility in the Emergency department at Holbæk Hospital. The hardware consists of AQT-90 Flex (CRP, D-dimer), ABL-800 (Na, K, Hgb, BG etc.) and HemoCue (Leukocytes), thus rendering useful parameters within initial assessment. A clinical biochemist was affiliated and analysis the blood samples taken between 10:00–22:00 hours, i.e. the period where 80% of the total patient flow occurs. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether POCT provides faster blood test results than ordinary clinical laboratory equipment (CLE).

The Effect of ‘On-Line’ POCT on Patient waiting times in an Accident and Emergency Department

This POCT (point of care testing) team was constructed at the start of 2012 to implement the POCT project aiming to define and test the hypothesis that interfacing POCT devices to a clinical electronic order communications system reduces patient waiting times in an NHS Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). The devices selected for evaluation initially comprised the Sysmex XS 1000i haematolog...

Perspectives on cost and outcomes for point-of-care testing.

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is usually more expensive on a unit-cost basis than testing performed in a central laboratory. It is difficult to manage POCT and to maintain regulatory compliance, especially in large institutions. However, some POCT technologies have improved patient outcomes (patient self-glucose monitoring in the home, tight glycemic control in intensive care settings) or hospit...

Blood sample tube transporting system versus point of care technology in an emergency department; effect on time from collection to reporting? A randomised trial

BACKGROUND Time is a crucial factor in an emergency department and the effectiveness of diagnosing depends on, among other things, the accessibility of rapid reported laboratory test results; i.e.: a short turnaround time (TAT). Former studies have shown a reduced time to action when point of care technologies (POCT) are used in emergency departments. This study assesses the hypothesis, that us...

Point of Care D-Dimer Testing in the Emergency Department: A Bioequivalence Study

BACKGROUND D-dimer is used widely as a diagnostic aid in low- and moderate-risk patients with suspected venous thromboembolism (VTE). While our laboratory utilizes VIDAS D-dimer analyzer (bioMérieux SA, France), our emergency department (ED) recently procured a D-dimer analyzer AQT90 FLEX (Radiometer Medical ApS, Denmark) for point of care testing (POCT) to facilitate patient management. We aim...

A point-of-care chemistry test for reduction of turnaround and clinical decision time.

PURPOSE Our study compared clinical decision time between patients managed with a point-of-care chemistry test (POCT) and patients managed with the traditional central laboratory test (CLT). BASIC PROCEDURE This was a randomized controlled multicenter trial in the emergency departments (EDs) of 5 academic teaching hospitals. We randomly assigned patients to POCT or CLT stratified by the Emerg...
