The oxidation of tricarboxylic acid cycle compounds by Penicillium chrysogenum.

چکیده
The presence of a tricarboxylic acid cycle in Penicillium chry8ogenum, as yet, has not been demonstrated conclusively. Ajl (1951) stated that of the mechanisms proposed for oxidation of the 2 carbon fragment in mold metabolism, the evidence for a tricarboxylic acid cycle is the least convincing. This paper presents a study of some of the enzymes of the tricarboxylic acid cycle in cell-free preparations of P. chrysogenum, strain NRRL 1951.B25, and a study of the destruction by phosphatases of the coenzymes and cofactors of some of these enzymes.

Effects of lysine analogs on Penicillium chrysogenum.
Compounds structurally related to lysine were tested against Penicillium chrysogenum Wis. 54-1255 for inhibition of growth, sporulation, and penicillin formation. This strain is relatively resistant to lysine analogs. The compounds that were the more active inhibitors of growth and whose activities were reversed by L-lysine were diaminohexynoic acid, N-epsilon-methyllysine, N-alpha-methyllysine...
متن کاملA study of lipides of Penicillium chrysogenum.
Relatively few studies have been made on the lipide metabolism of Penicillium chrysogenum, although large quantities of these compounds are used as antifoam agents in the production of penicillin. Goldschmidt and Koffler (1) demonstrated that unsaturated long chain fatty acids present in the antifoam were responsible for stimulation of penicillin yields, since many physiologically inert compoun...
متن کاملPenicillin acyltransferase in Penicillium chrysogenum.
Isotopic exchange of (35)S between penicillins and 6-amino-penicillanic acid (6-APA) was observed in cell-free extracts of Penicillium chrysogenum. Sulfhydryl-containing compounds were required for activity. Dithiothreitol, dithioerythritol, mercaptoethanol, and glutathione served as activators. The acyltransferase was purified threefold by adsorption on calcium phosphate gel at pH 6 and elutio...
متن کاملDetergent-like stressor and nutrient in metabolism of Penicillium chrysogenum
The influence of detergents on the metabolism of Penicillium chrysogenum from two aspects, as a stress factor and potential nutrient, was studied. The fungus was isolated from the river bed Lepenica, Kragujevac, at a place where sewage domestic wastewater discharged into the river. The fungus was grown in a liquid nutrient medium according to Czapek with and without addition of commercial deter...
متن کاملMetabolic engineering of β-oxidation in Penicillium chrysogenum for improved semi-synthetic cephalosporin biosynthesis.
Industrial production of semi-synthetic cephalosporins by Penicillium chrysogenum requires supplementation of the growth media with the side-chain precursor adipic acid. In glucose-limited chemostat cultures of P. chrysogenum, up to 88% of the consumed adipic acid was not recovered in cephalosporin-related products, but used as an additional carbon and energy source for growth. This low efficie...
