چکیده
Eligibility for and Prescription of Urate-Lowering Treatment in PatientsWith Incident Gout in England Gout is caused by urate crystal deposition secondary to persistent hyperuricemia. Current guidelines recommenduratelowering treatment to prevent crystal deposition and encourage crystal dissolution for patients with more severe gout or concomitant conditions.1,2 However, after the first diagnosis, it remainsunclearwhen such treatment is appropriate. We investigated the timingofeligibility for andprescriptionofuratelowering treatment following first gout diagnosis and factors associated with prescription.

Effect of Fenofibrate in Combination with Urate Lowering Agents in Patients with Gout
BACKGROUND To assess the efficacy of fenofibrate treatment in combination with urate lowering agents in patients with gout. METHODS Fourteen male patients with chronic tophaceous or recurrent acute attacks of gout were evaluated in an open-label pilot study of the hypolipidemic agent, fenofibrate (Lipidil Supra 160 mg/d). Patients were stable on urate lowering agents (allopurinol or benzbroma...
متن کاملTime required for disappearance of urate crystals from synovial fluid after successful hypouricaemic treatment relates to the duration of gout.
OBJECTIVES To determine whether hypouricaemic treatment results in the disappearance of urate crystals from gouty joints and to define the time required. METHODS In 18 patients with monosodium urate (MSU) crystal proven gout, and after the initiation of successful serum uric acid (SUA)-lowering treatment, an arthrocentesis of the asymptomatic signal joint (11 knees, 7 first metatarsophalangea...

An Observational Study of Gout Prevalence and Quality of Care in a National Australian General Practice Population.
OBJECTIVE The central strategy for effective gout management is longterm urate-lowering therapy to maintain the serum urate at a level below 0.36 mmol/l. We sought to determine the prevalence of gout and the quality of care in a national Australian general practice population. METHODS Data were from general practice point-of-care electronic records over a 5-year period (n = 1,479,449). Inform...

However, despite the availability of effective urate-lowering therapy, there remains a subset of patients with gout who, despite aggr...
