Hypothetical particles

چکیده

A review is given of the status of hypotheses about various undiscovered particles. Magnetic monopoles, intermediate bosons, heavy leptons, scalar particles, quarks, tachyons and gravitons are discussed, along with speculations about the newly discovered neutral mesons. This review was completed in December 1974. Rep. Prog. Phys. 1975 38 731-770

Adaptive Probabilistic Tracking with Visual Saliency Selection Reliable Particles

It is very difficult to guarantee the stability and accuracy of object tracking in real-world scenarios. Although probabilistic tracking has become popular, there are two major problems: discriminative appearance modeling and reliable particles selection. To address these issues, this paper presents a visual saliency inspired approach that can capture the varying appearance characteristic of ta...

THE EFFECT OF COSMIONS ON THE STABILITY OF MAIN SEQUENCE STELLAR CORES

We have studied the effect of hypothetical Cosmions on the core stability of main sequence stars (of populations I and II). Cosmions, with a mass of 4-10 Gev/c2 and a scattering cross section with nucleons of approximately 10-36 cm2 could prevail in transporting heat in the stellar cores. Raby [17] showed the existence of a local thermal instability caused by the presence of Cosmions in the sol...

Mixing of photons with massive spin-two particles in a magnetic field

We study the mixing of photons with hypothetical massive spin-two particles in the presence of a magnetic field. Mixing phenomena have been studied thoroughly only in the case of axion-like particles but not in this case. We find several interesting differences between them. We also show that the interpretation of the PVLAS experiment in terms of mixing with spin-two particles is strongly disfa...

For Publisher’s use DARK MATTER SEARCHES

More than 90% of matter in the Universe could be composed of heavy particles, which were non-relativistic, or 'cold', when they froze-out from the primordial soup. I will review current searches for these hypothetical particles, both via interactions with nuclei in deep underground detectors, and via the observation of their annihilation products in the Sun, galactic halo and galactic center.

Response of mica to weakly interacting massive particles.

We calculate spin-dependent cross sections for the scattering from mica of hypothetical weakly interacting dark-matter particles such as neutralinos. The most abundant odd-A isotopes in mica, 27 Al and 39 K, require different shell-model treatments. The calculated cross sections will allow the interpretation of ongoing experiments that look for tracks due to the interaction of dark-matter parti...
