چکیده

The adoption of new technology depends on various factors, such as the type of technology, the context or culture in which the technology is introduced, and the individual decisions by people within that culture. This work presents an approach that uses an agent-based model to encompass the detailed behavior of individuals and their immediate network of relationships, as well as an influence-based system dynamics model to show how societylevel influences function interactively and with respect to individual agents. The exploration of technology adoption grounds the model in a realistic environment and allows the incorporation of theoretical models from multiple relevant domains. The integrated model demonstrates how representing behavior at multiple scales is a natural approach that allows for a greater understanding of how influences across different scales interact and affect the adoption of a new technology.

Predicting Young’s Modulus of Aggregated Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Polymer

Prediction of mechanical properties of carbon nanotube-based composite is one of the important issues which should be addressed reasonably. A proper modeling approach is a multi-scale technique starting from nano scale and lasting to macro scale passing in-between scales of micro and meso. The main goal of this research is to develop a multi-scale modeling approach to extract mechanical propert...

User Interconnect and Quality of Communication

within the South African Digital Divide where constant and severe macro-scale latencies would most likely interfere with the usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions. We describe how these systems tend to exhibit both social and technical macro-scale delays. Our experience building bridges for these communities has inspired several innovations with respect to the design...

Displacement-based multiscale modeling of fiber-reinforced composites by means of proper orthogonal decomposition

Many applications are based on the use of materials with heterogeneous microstructure. Prominent examples are fiber-reinforced composites, multi-phase steels or soft tissue to name only a few. The modeling of structures composed of such materials is suitably carried out at different scales. At the micro scale, the detailed microstructure is taken into account, whereas the modeling at the macro ...

A multi-country study of the adoption of ERP systems: The effect of national culture

Studies on the adoption of innovations by companies generally include micro-level and mesolevel variables in order to explain a company’s receptiveness to innovations. This study adds to the literature by investigating the role of macro-level variables (i.e. national culture) to explain differences in innovation penetration levels and adoption decisions by companies across national cultures. A ...
