چکیده

The original version of this Article contained errors in the Supplementary Information files: Zircon U-Pb age results for sample 23, shown in Supplementary Fig. 3, are incorrect, and missing from Supplementary Data 1, while several identification labels relating to Yellow River Lanzhou terraces samples are missing from Supplementary Data 2. Supplementary Data 1 and 2 have now been updated to provide the missing information, while the corrected version of Supplementary Fig. 3 appears below. DOI: 10.1038/ncomms10831 OPEN

Loess Plateau storage of Northeastern Tibetan Plateau-derived Yellow River sediment

Marine accumulations of terrigenous sediment are widely assumed to accurately record climatic- and tectonic-controlled mountain denudation and play an important role in understanding late Cenozoic mountain uplift and global cooling. Underpinning this is the assumption that the majority of sediment eroded from hinterland orogenic belts is transported to and ultimately stored in marine basins wit...

Managing Soil Erosion on the Loess Plateau of China to Control Sediment Transport in the Yellow River-A Geomorphic Perspective

A key part of the strategy to manage the problems of flooding and sedimentation of the lower Yellow River in China is the control of soil erosion on the loess plateau. Land use practices are assumed to be the root cause of the high sediment yield and therefore able to be controlled. An analysis of the geomorphology of the loess plateau region shows that there are natural causes of high sediment...

Phylogeographic investigation and ecological niche modelling of the endemic frog species Nanorana pleskei revealed multiple refugia in the eastern Tibetan Plateau

The largest plateau Tibetan Plateau supplied an excellent opportunity to investigate the influence of the Pleistocene events on the high-elevation species. To test for the alternative hypotheses of Pleistocene glacial refugia, we used partial sequences of two mitochondrial genes and one nuclear gene to examine the phylogeographic patterns of the endemic frog species Nanorana pleskei across its ...

Soil erosion and sediment transport in the gullied Loess Plateau: Scale effects and their mechanisms

Scale effects exist in the whole process of rainfall―runoff―soil erosion―sediment transport in river basins. The differences of hydrographs and sediment graphs in different positions in a river basin are treated as basic scale effects, which are more complex in the gullied Loess Plateau, a region notorious for high intensity soil erosion and hyper-concentrated sediment-laden flow. The up-scalin...

Interactive comment on “Moderate topsoil erosion rates constrain the magnitude of the erosion-induced carbon sink and agricultural productivity losses on the Chinese Loess Plateau” by J. Zhao et al

Reply: this statement was indeed based on the observed data at two gauge stations: one located at the outlet of Chinese loess plateau and named Huayuankou station; another was located at the estuary of yellow river and named Lijin station (Figure 1 and 9 in MS). In 1950s condition, we estimated that soil erosion mobilized, in total, ca. 8.21 ± 3.44 Tg C yr-1 which consistent with the observatio...
