Votinbox - a voting system based on smart cards

چکیده
The complexity of voting procedures, and their variations from country to country, make it challenging to design a secure electronic voting system. In most of the usual proposals, the security of the system relies mainly on a blackbox voting machine. Meanwhile, the most advanced proposals base their security arguments on (complicated) cryptographic protocols, e.g. blind signatures or homomorphic schemes. At Cardis 2004, Canard and Traoré [4] presented cryptographic primitives specially aimed at providing anonymous services using smartcards. Among the proposed primitives is a new list signature scheme. Such schemes are specially suitable for electronic voting, as they provide specific properties such as multiple vote detection. Moreover, unlike blind signatures, they do not require the participation of a signing authority during the ballot creation process. The purpose of this paper is to present the Votinbox electronic voting system, whose security relies on a tamper-resistant smart card embedding several cryptographic protocols, including list signatures.

Providing a Distance Bounding Protocol Named Pasargad in order to Defend against Relay Attacks on RFID-Based Electronic Voting System
The most important characteristic of RFID-based electronic voting system compared to traditional voting system is that votes in the electronic system are as contactless smart cards in place of paper ballots. For casting ballots, voters use a computer terminal to write their choices (their chosen candidates) into contactless smart cards and then put the smart card inside the box. The most import...

The ambition of any e-voting system is to reproduce, in an electronic environment, the characteristics of physical voting systems, such as accuracy, democracy, privacy and veri ability. REVS is an Internet e-voting system based on blind signatures and designed to be robust in distributed and faulty environments. However, the execution of REVS client system, used by voters, can be tampered by in...

متن کاملSmart Cards in Electronic Voting: Lessons Learned from Applications in Legallybinding Elections and Approaches Proposed in Scientific Papers
Recently, the interest in electronic voting has increased as more and more states have started to implement such systems. At the same time, classical national ID cards are often being replaced by national electronic ID cards which enable citizens to securely identify and authenticate themselves over the Internet. Despite their popularity, the possibility of using eID cards for e-voting has not ...
متن کاملSecure Internet Voting on Limited Devices with Anonymized DSA Public Keys
This paper presents an Internet voting protocol, which is primarily designed for limited voting devices such as smart cards or mobile phones. The minimum requirement for these devices is the ability to compute one ElGamal encryption and one DSA signature in reasonable time. The protocol is based on an anonymization mechanism for DSA public keys, which can be installed on top of an existing DSA ...
