Early photoinduced enzymes of photoinduced carotenogenesis in a Mycobacterium species.

چکیده
Some nonphotosynthetic microorganisms synthesize carotenes in response to light. Previous experiments demonstrated that the enzymes necessary for the synthesis and metabolism of phytoene were photoinduced in a Mycobacterium sp. We now report that prephytoene pyrophosphate synthetase is also totally photoinduced. Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthetase (prenyltransferase), which is present in dark-grown cells, is increased severalfold by photoinduction. The enzymes necessary for the synthesis of high molecular weight (C,, to CdO) polyprenyl pyrophosphates and isopentenyl pyrophosphate isomerase were unaffected by photoinduction. This is the first report of the photoinduction of enzymes acting prior to prephytoene pyrophosphate. These enzymes are not restricted to carotene synthesis.

Effects of Photoinduced Toxicity of Fluoranthene on Amphibian Embryos and Larvae
Embryos and newly hatched larvae of three amphibian species, the spotted salamander (Ambystoma maculatum), the northern leopard frog (Rana pipiens), and the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis), were exposed to fluoranthene and ultraviolet (UV) light in two scenarios. Embryos were exposed in a laboratory setting from an early developmental stage through hatching under artificial UV light, and n...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of light-insensitive mutants of Neurospora crassa.
As part of a genetic analysis of blue light photoreception in Neurospora, three mutants were isolated that do not exhibit photosuppression of circadian conidiation, i.e., they show periodic conidiation in constant light. The mutations have been given the designations lis-1, lis-2 and lis-3 ("light insensitive"). The three mutations segregate as single nuclear genes, are nonallelic and are reces...
متن کاملPhotoinduced transformation of 14-F-bacteriorhodopsin gelatin films based on both wild type and D96N mutant.
Spectral and kinetic transformations were studied in gelatin films made with 14-F wild type (WT) bacteriorhodopsin (BR) and 14-F D96N mutant BR. Unlike the recent study of water suspensions of the same pigments, where a red shifted species at 660 nm was shown to form under the light in 14-F WT only, there are no drastic differences in photoinduced behavior between gelatin films based on 14-F WT...
متن کامل'In-situ' charge-density studies of photoinduced phenomena: possibilities for the future?
Over the past decade, there has been much development in the structure determination of photoinduced species by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Such work is key to understanding many photoactivated chemical processes and physical properties that are behind phenomena such as photoisomerism, photoinduced chemical reactions, light-induced spin-crossover transitions and molecular excited states t...
