Fedora: A Case Study of Design in a FLOSS Community

This paper presents a case study of the process of designing free/libre & open source software (FLOSS) concepts and interfaces within an open FLOSS community – the Fedora Project, a popular Linux-based operating system. This paper will review the challenges faced by designers in getting involved in FLOSS with examples from the Fedora community. It will also provide recommendations for getting started in an open source community as a designer, learned from experiences doing so in Fedora. Author
