Comparative Bioavailability of Coenzyme Q10 in Four Formulations

چکیده

oenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) plays an essential role in mitochondrial electron transport, and as such it is fundamental for energy production in cells. Further, CoQ10 is an antioxidant whose activity is particularly important in regenerating vitamin E. Its ability to quench free-radicals also helps maintain the structural integrity and stability of mitochondrial and cellular membranes—including intracellular membranes. Studies have shown therapeutic benefits for CoQ10 supplementation, the best documented of which involve cases of heart failure and ischemic heart disease. Because CoQ10 is a lipidsoluble nutrient, its bioavailability from pharmaceutical and nutritional products can be limited. USANA uses a patented solubilization system in its current CoQuinone product, which is highly effective in promoting high CoQ10 absorption. However, many of the solubilizing ingredients are synthetic, and ideally an all-natural formula would be preferable. This study was designed to compare the bioavailability of CoQ10 as delivered by four formulas, including a new, proprietary, all-natural formula developed by USANA scientists.

Plasma coenzyme Q10 response to oral ingestion of coenzyme Q10 formulations.

Plasma coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) response to oral ingestion of various CoQ10 formulations was examined. Both total plasma CoQ10 and net increase over baseline CoQ10 concentrations show a gradual increase with increasing doses of CoQ10. Plasma CoQ10 concentrations plateau at a dose of 2400 mg using one specific chewable tablet formulation. The efficiency of absorption decreases as the dose increases....

Comparative study of the protective effects of chicken embryo amniotic fluid, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10 on cyclophosphamide-induced oxidative stress in mice ovaries

Cyclophosphamide is a chemotherapy drug for the treatment of cancer. Chicken embryo amniotic fluid, vitamin C and coenzyme Q10 have anti-oxidant properties. Total of 70 adult female mice were selected and divided into seven groups. The first group that received 2 ml kg-1 of inactivated amniotic fluid subcutaneously. The second group treated with 75 mg kg-1of cyclophosphami...

Bioavailability of two different formulations of coenzyme Q10 in healthy subjects.

The bioavailability of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) formulated as an emulsion in a soft gelatin capsule (Ensorb(TM), NDS Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia) was compared with a hard gelatin powder-filled capsule. The study design was a randomized cross-over trial with a 3-week wash-out period. The study population comprised 23 apparently healthy adults (12 men and 11 women), aged 20-43 years. Each partici...

Nanocapsule suspensions containing coenzyme Q10 were prepared by interfacial deposition. The nanocapsules showed characteristics compatible with dermal application: slightly acid pH, drug content close to 100%, particle size between 213 and 248 nm with low polydispersity and negative zeta potential. Three cosmetic formulations for skin application were developed, one with the free-coenzyme Q10,...

Novel Lipid-Free Nanoformulation for Improving Oral Bioavailability of Coenzyme Q10

To improve the bioavailability of orally administered lipophilic coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), we formulated a novel lipid-free nano-CoQ10 system stabilized by various surfactants. Nano-CoQ10s, composed of 2.5% (w/w) CoQ10, 1.67% (w/w) surfactant, and 41.67% (w/w) glycerol, were prepared by hot high-pressure homogenization. The resulting formulations were characterized by particle size, zeta potential,...
