Cost-effectiveness of coronary interventions.

چکیده
As the costs of medical care continue to rise, there has been increasing interest in evaluating the cost-effectiveness of medical practices. One area that has received particular scrutiny in recent years is percutaneous coronary revascularisation (PTCA). In the United States alone, more than 300 000 PTCAs are performed each year at an estimated cost of approximately US$3 billion. Despite the tremendous growth of the PTCA industry, however, there is still no evidence that the procedure improves survival compared with medical treatment, and only one small trial has examined the results of PTCA in a controlled fashion.' Given the cost of these procedures and the limited evidence of their overall effectiveness, it is understandable that PTCA is a prime target for cost containment efforts.

متن کاملCost-effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease compared to coronary artery bypass surgery five-years after intervention
OBJECTIVES Cost-effectiveness of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using drug-eluting stents (DES), and coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) was analyzed in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease over a 5-year follow-up. BACKGROUND DES implantation reducing revascularization rate and associated costs might be attractive for health economics as compared to CABG. METHODS Co...
متن کاملEffectiveness of two intensive treatment methods for smoking cessation and relapse prevention in patients with coronary heart disease: study protocol and baseline description
BACKGROUND There is no more effective intervention for secondary prevention of coronary heart disease than smoking cessation. Yet, evidence about the (cost-)effectiveness of smoking cessation treatment methods for cardiac inpatients that also suit nursing practice is scarce. This protocol describes the design of a study on the (cost-)effectiveness of two intensive smoking cessation intervention...
