چکیده

We investigate fast optimum route planning in large, real-world road networks for car navigation systems. We show how graph partitioning can be used to increase the speed of planning optimum routes. Creating a graph partition with future route planning in mind leads to a non-standard graph partitioning problem. In particular, the quality of a partition, indicated by the objective value, is assumed to represent the execution time of the route planning process. We present an efficient approximation algorithm for creating graph partitions suited for fast optimum route planning. We study the relation between the objective value and the number of edges evaluated by the route planning algorithm, which is an objective measure of the route planning speed. Experiments show that the best partition according to the objective value does not lead to the fastest route planning process. We present a new objective value and show that better partitions result in faster route planning for our new objective

Multi-Modal Route Planning with Transfer Patterns

We examine a way to extend routing using transfer patterns – a state of the art route planning approach for fast routing in public transportation networks – to a multi-modal scenario that allows using public transport, cars, and walking. We specifically examine how to precompute transfer patterns for multi-criteria, multi-modal route planning. When done naively with a Pareto cost model, this le...

Fast and Accurate Route Planning in Road Networks

Highway Hierarchies. The computation of shortest paths in a graph is a well-known problem in graph theory. One of the most obvious practical applications is route planning in a road network, i.e., finding an optimal route from a start location to a target location. It is often assumed that a given road network does not change very often and that there are many source-target queries on the same ...

Identifying Hierarchies for Fast Optimal Search

For some search problems, the graph is known beforehand and there is time to preprocess the graph to make the search faster. One such example is video games, where one can often preprocess maps before a game is released or while a map is loaded into memory. The data produced by preprocessing should use only a small amount of memory, and, in case they are generated during runtime, preprocessing ...

Stirling number of the fourth kind and lucky partitions of a finite set

The concept of Lucky k-polynomials and in particular Lucky χ-polynomials was recently introduced. This paper introduces Stirling number of the fourth kind and Lucky partitions of a finite set in order to determine either the Lucky k- or Lucky χ-polynomial of a graph. The integer partitions influence Stirling partitions of the second kind.
