چکیده

We study the value of cosmological constant in de Sitter brane embedded in five dimensions with positive, vanishing and negative bulk cosmological constant. In the case of negative bulk cosmological constant, we show that not zero but tiny four-dimensional cosmological constant can be realized by tiny deviation from bulk curvature of the Randall-Sundrum model. ∗E-mail address: [email protected]

افت و خیزهای برداری حول جواب وسون

In Wesson's canonical model, the universe is assumed to be five dimensional (5D) empty space time. This model corresponds to a solution of the Einstein field equation in five dimensions which, from a four dimensional point of view, is equivalent to a universe with a positive cosmological constant. In this model, the fifth direction is perpendicular to the four dimensional space time and is not...

Warped Geometry of Brane Worlds

We study the dynamical equations for a warp factor and a bulk scalar in 5d brane world scenarios. These equations are similar to those for the time dependence of the scale factor and a scalar field in 4d cosmology, but with the sign of the scalar field potential reversed. Based on this analogy, we introduce two novel methods for studying the warped geometry. First, we construct the full phase p...

Bounds on curved domain walls in 5d gravity

We discuss maximally symmetric curved deformations of the flat domain wall solutions of five-dimensional dilaton gravity that appeared in a recent approach to the cosmological constant problem. By analyzing the bulk field configurations and the boundary conditions at a four-dimensional maximally symmetric curved domain wall, we obtain constraints on such solutions. For a special dilaton couplin...

Self-similar cosmologies in 5D: spatially flat anisotropic models

In the context of theories of Kaluza-Klein type, with a large extra dimension, we study self-similar cosmological models in 5D that are homogeneous, anisotropic and spatially flat. The “ladder” to go between the physics in 5D and 4D is provided by Campbell-Maagard’s embedding theorems. We show that the 5-dimensional field equations RAB = 0 determine the form of the similarity variable. There ar...

Observed Cosmological Constant is Predicted by Curved-Spacetime Renormalization

I show that a cosmological constant of roughly the observed magnitude in the present universe is a consequence of general relativity and quantum field theory in curved spacetime, and was first predicted by Parker and Toms in 1985. This prediction follows from the “new partially summed form” of the propagator in curved spacetime. The effect is based on the contribution of massive particles to th...
