Musicians noise exposure in orchestra pit
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sound exposures of Canadian Opera Company orchestra players were measured to assess the risk of hearing loss of players in orchestra pits. This was done during 18 sessions that included rehearsals, dress rehearsals and actual performances of two operas. Seventy-three noise exposures of musicians were measured using five dosimeters for the entire duration (3 h) of each event. The measured estimate, Leq, from which the Lex was calculated using the numbers of hours per year played by the musicians of the Canadian Opera Company. Following the ISO 1999 Standard, results indicate that, playing for the company does not pose risk of hearing loss for the players. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Evaluation of the noise exposure of symphonic orchestra musicians.
For musicians, the impact of noise exposure is not yet fully characterized. Some inconsistencies can be found in the methodology used to evaluate noise exposure. This study aims to analyze the noise exposure of musicians in a symphonic orchestra to understand their risk for hearing loss, applying the methodology proposed by ISO 9612:2009. Noise levels were monitored among musicians during the r...
متن کاملParametric Method for the Noise Risk Assessment of Professional Orchestral Musicians
BACKGROUND The Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) literature shows that noise could represent a risk factor for professional orchestral musicians. The continuative exposition to elevated noise levels and the particular nature of the activity make necessary an "atypical" OH&S approach, which was identified to be necessarily organizational. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study, a parametric-b...
متن کاملSound exposure of symphony orchestra musicians.
BACKGROUND Assessment of sound exposure by noise dosimetry can be challenging especially when measuring the exposure of classical orchestra musicians where sound originate from many different instruments. A new measurement method of bilateral sound exposure of classical musicians was developed and used to characterize sound exposure of the left and right ear simultaneously in two different symp...
متن کاملNoise exposure and hearing loss in classical orchestra musicians
Noise exposure and hearing loss was assessed in different instrument groups of a professional ballet orchestra. Those instrument groups experiencing the highest levels of exposure also had the highest pure tone thresholds. Critically, we found that thresholds were not uniform across instrument groups. The greatest difference in thresholds was observed at test frequencies above 2000 Hz, peaking ...
متن کاملA pilot study of occupational injury and illness experienced by classical musicians.
Limited attention is paid to the hazards experienced by orchestra musicians in the occupational health and safety literature. Within that literature, the primary focus has been on noise exposure. A focus on this area is warranted because high sound pressure levels are a product of this work environment. However, in addition to being at risk for noise-induced hearing loss, workers are also at ri...
