Object detection using gabor filters

چکیده
This paper pertains to the detection of objects located in complex backgrounds. A feature-based segmentation approach to the object detection problem is pursued, where the features are computed over multiple spatial orientations and frequencies. The method proceeds as follows: A given image is passed through a bank of even-symmetric Gabor lters. A selection of these ltered images is made and each (selected) ltered image is subjected to a nonlinear (sigmoidal like) transformation. Then, a measure of texture energy is computed in a window around each transformed image pixel. The texture energy (\Gabor features"), and their spatial locations, are inputted to a squared-error clustering algorithm. This clustering algorithm yields a segmentation of the original image { it assigns to each pixel in the image a cluster label that identiies the amount of mean local energy the pixel possesses across diierent spatial orientations and frequencies. The method is applied to a number of visual and infrared images, each one of which contains one or more objects. The region corresponding to the object is usually segmented correctly, and a unique signature of \Ga-bor features" is typically associated with the segment containing the object(s) of interest. Experimental results are provided to illustrate the usefulness of this object detection method in a number of problem domains. These problems arise in IVHS, military reconnaissance, ngerprint analysis, and image database query.

3D Gabor Based Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection
Hyperspectral anomaly detection is one of the main challenging topics in both military and civilian fields. The spectral information contained in a hyperspectral cube provides a high ability for anomaly detection. In addition, the costly spatial information of adjacent pixels such as texture can also improve the discrimination between anomalous targets and background. Most studies miss the wort...
متن کاملSegmentation and Object Detection with Gabor Filters and Cumulative Histograms
This paper proposes an algorithm for segmentation and extracting an object region by using Gabor filters. Gabor filters are exploited to extract spatial frequency in some orientations, and not only the outputs of Gabor filters but also color informations are used to construct the features at each image pixel. The criterion is devised so as to consider the similarity, the region size and the reg...

متن کاملA neural 3-D object recognition architecture using optimized Gabor filters
We present an object recognition architecture based on feature extraction by Gabor filter kernels and feature classification by an artificial neural network. The parameters of the Gabor filters are optimized to the specific problem by minimizing an energy function. Such Gabor filters extract features that can be more easily classified by the neural network. Moreover the feature space is low-dim...
متن کاملEvolutionary Gabor Filter Optimization with Application to Vehicle Detection
Despite the considerable amount of research work on the application of Gabor filters in pattern classification, their design and selection have been mostly done on a trial and error basis. Existing techniques are either only suitable for a small number of filters or less problem-oriented. A systematic and general evolutionary Gabor filter optimization (EGFO) approach that yields a more optimal,...
متن کاملExploring visual features through Gabor representations for facial expression detection
Gabor representations have been widely used in facial analysis (face recognition, face detection and facial expression detection) due to their biological relevance and computational properties. Two popular Gabor representations used in literature are: 1) Log-Gabor and 2) Gabor energy filters. Even though these representations are somewhat similar, they also have distinct differences as the Log-...
