Hybrid cardiovascular therapy: interventional (and surgical) procedures in high-risk patients

چکیده
Cardiovascular consultants are increasingly faced with patients presenting with multiple comorbidities or structural challenges, who are in need for anatomical corrections. In such patients, hybrid cardiovascular procedures often allow for collaborative therapies that integrate the strengths of percutaneous and traditional open surgical treatments, to provide an overarching treatment that cannot be provided by either approach in isolation. While the concept of hybrid cardiovascular therapy is not new, it has seen a resurgence in recent years, with the developement of new devices and approaches. Areas of particular growth within hybrid cardiovascular care include hybrid myocardial revascularization, hybrid therapies for valvular and structural heart diseases and hybrid procedures for aortic diseases. Future growth in this field is inevitable and represents an exciting frontier in cardiovascular medicine.

Hybrid procedures for complex thoracic aortic diseases.
BACKGROUND Hybrid procedures for the treatment of complex thoracic aortic diseases (CTAD) require the revascularization of one or more supra-aortic arteries, followed by the deployment of one or more aortic endoprosthesis, with lower morbidity and mortality compared to conventional surgery. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the technique and results of hybrid procedures for CTAD. METHODS During two ye...

BACKGROUND Paediatric hybrid cardiovascular procedures are becoming increasingly popular due to the wide spectrum of cardiovascular abnormalities and a large population of patients who could benefit from hybrid therapy. Contemporary hybrid procedures are introduced in the settings where routine cardiac surgery or cardiac interventions would not allow satisfactory results. Combining cardiac surg...

Introduction The increasing practice of interventional fluoroscopy in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease has risen attention to improve radiation protection of patients and cardiologists in these relatively high dose techniques. Therefore, nowadays there is an emphasis on the measurement of radiation dose received by patients and cardiologists arising from the relevant procedures...
متن کاملA prospective evaluation of bleeding risk of interventional techniques in chronic pain.
BACKGROUND The role of antithrombotic therapy is well known for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease to decrease the incidence of acute cerebral and cardiovascular events. Data shows that the risk of coronary thrombosis after antiplatelet drug withdrawal is much higher than that of surgical bleeding if the antiplatelet drug therapy were continued. However, it has been a co...
متن کاملNew approaches to computer-based interventional neuroradiology training.
For over 20 years, interventional methods have substantially improved the outcomes of patients with cardiovascular disease. However, these procedures require an intricate combination of visual and tactile feedback and extensive training periods. In this paper, a prototype of endovascular therapy training system is presented. A set of core simulation components applicable to most vascular proced...
