Syntax and Semantics of Korean Numeral Classifier Constructions

چکیده
As given in the raising (2a) and causative (2b), the Num-CL sey myeng ‘three CL’ can have a different case marking from its antecedent, functioning as the matrix object. In a sense, it is linked to the original grammatical function of the raised object and the causee, respectively. Central issues in deep-parsing numeral classifier constructions thus concern how to generate such FQ constructions and link the FQ with its remote antecedent together with appropriate semantics. This paper provides a typed feature structure grammar, HPSG, together with Minimal Recursion Semantics (MRS), is well-suited in providing the syntax and semantics of these constructions for computational implementations.

Processing Korean Numeral Classifier Constructions in a Typed Feature Structure Grammar
Abstract. The syntactic and semantic complexity of the so-called numeral classifier (Num-Cl) constructions in Korean challenges theoretical as well as computational linguists. We provide a constraint-based analysis of these constructions within the framework of HPSG with the semantic representations of MRS (Minimal Recursion Semantics) and reports its implementation in the LKB (Linguistic Knowl...
متن کاملImplementing the Syntax of Japanese Numeral Classifiers
While the sortal constraints associated with Japanese numeral classifiers are wellstudied, less attention has been paid to the details of their syntax. We describe an analysis implemented within a broadcoverage HPSG that handles an intricate set of numeral classifier construction types and compositionally relates each to an appropriate semantic representation, using Minimal Recursion Semantics.
متن کاملA Simple Syntax for Complex Semantics
As part of a long-ranged project that aims at establishing databasetheoretic semantics as a model of computational semantics, this presentation focuses on the development of a syntactic component for processeing strings of words or sentences to construct semantic data structures. For design and modeling purposes, the present treatment will be restricted to the analysis of some problematic const...
متن کاملTenseless constructions in a tensed language: temporal interpretation of the Korean -ko construction
1. Introduction This paper investigates the nature of the syntax-semantics interface through a study of the temporal interpretation of the Korean-ko construction. In Korean, matrix clauses must be tensed whereas the non-final conjunct of the-ko construction can be untensed. For example, (1) must be realized either with present (PRES) or past (PAST) tense morpheme whereas the past tense on the v...
متن کاملReverse Engineering of Network Software Binary Codes for Identification of Syntax and Semantics of Protocol Messages
Reverse engineering of network applications especially from the security point of view is of high importance and interest. Many network applications use proprietary protocols which specifications are not publicly available. Reverse engineering of such applications could provide us with vital information to understand their embedded unknown protocols. This could facilitate many tasks including d...
