چکیده

Mixed crystals can be categorized as the crystal in which two or more different types of atoms are present and configured. These atoms interact each other in the influence of Coulomb force of attraction and the presence of short range repulsion force. Due to this interaction they tends to be arranged in equilibrium state and forms new material. A pure crystal can be doped by impurities with proper concentration of impurity to get the desired material. This concept of interaction between the atoms are called the Three Body Interaction(TBI) model. This model is based on the concept of interaction between atoms. The presence of short range repulsion force between the atoms is very crucial, in the absence of which coulomb force of attraction will be dominant and it will lead to volume collapse. Applying of high pressure on the crystal results in the transfer of charge between the atoms. This transfer of charge causes them to rearrange in some different cofigurational state different from original configuration. This rearrangement of atoms affects the different properties of material like hardness, melting point, optical properties and mechanical properties.

Novel photoinduced phase transitions in transition metal oxides and diluted magnetic semiconductors

Some transition metal oxides have frustrated electronic states under multiphase competition due to strongly correlated d electrons with spin, charge, and orbital degrees of freedom and exhibit drastic responses to external stimuli such as optical excitation. Here, we present photoemission studies on Pr0.55(Ca1 - ySry)0.45MnO3 (y = 0.25), SrTiO3, and Ti1 - xCoxO2 (x = 0.05, 0.10) under laser ill...

Bonding and Electronic Structure of Minerals

Minerals are crystalline solids, and their properties are governed by quantum mechanics. Density functional theory in the local density approximation or the generalized gradient approximation gives accurate predictions for energetic properties of closed shell systems, as well as ionic/covalent crystals, and open-shelled transition metals and transition metals oxides. The electronic structure an...

Metal-ligand interplay in strongly correlated oxides: a parametrized phase diagram for pressure-induced spin transitions.

We investigate the magnetic properties of archetypal transition-metal oxides MnO, FeO, CoO, and NiO under very high pressure by x-ray emission spectroscopy at the Kbeta line. We observe a strong modification of the magnetism in the megabar range in all the samples except NiO. The results are analyzed within a multiplet approach including charge-transfer effects. The spectral changes are well ac...

Importance of Magnetism in Phase Stability, Equations of State, and Elasticity

— The effects of magnetism on high pressure properties of transition metals and transition metal compounds can be quite important. In the case of Fe, magnetism is responsible for stability of the body-centered cubic (bcc) phase at ambient conditions, and the large thermal expansivity in face-centered cubic (fcc) iron, and also has large effects on the equation of state and elasticity of hexagon...
