The biosynthesis of estrone and progesterone in the pregnant mare.

چکیده
Studies of the biological incorporation of isotopically labeled acetate into steroid hormones have become a well established tool in the field of steroid biochemistry. We have undertaken the study of the incorporation of acetate-l-U4 into the various sterols and steroid hormones of the pregnant mare. This study has been a joint undertaking of the two laboratories and has been the subject of several doctoral and masters theses; several aspects of the work have been reported (14). The present communication deals with the isolation and measurement of the radioactive neutral steroids of the urine, all related to progesterone. The results on the daily samples of one, 3/3-hydroxyallopregnan-20-one are interpreted in terms of data on whole blood cholesterol and urinary estrogens drawn from the earlier reports. Comparison of the apparent rates of formation from acetate of estrone and progesterone in this experiment has indicated that both hormones may have a common biosynthetic pathway.

The conversion of testosterone-3-C14 to C14-estradiol-17beta by human ovarian tissue.
There is a considerable body of biological data linking testosterone and other 19-carbon steroids with the estrogens. Both ovaries and testes may, under certain circumstances, produce androgens and estrogens (14). The administration of testosterone and other androgens to human subjects leads to an increased urinary excretion of estrogenic material (5-lo), which has been identified as estrone, e...

Reproductive performance of female goats given progestagen associated with PMSG and/or HMG in deep anestrus.
During deep anestrus and after a 21-day fluorogestone acetate (FGA) treatment, 200 pluriparous lactating Alpine goats were given randomly one of four treatments: (A) 500 IU of pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) 48 h before sponge removal; (B) 500 IU of PMSG 48 h before sponge removal and an ampoule of human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) at sponge removal; (C) two ampoules of HMG at sponge ...
متن کاملEstrogens, Progestins, and Specific Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs)
Biologically important natural estrogens and progestins include estradiol, estrone, estriol, and progesterone. Estradiol-17 is the most potent estrogen that is found naturally in women. Estrone is one-tenth as biologically active as estradiol, and estriol is the weakest of the three. Estriol is synthesized by the placenta and is excreted at high levels in the urine of pregnant women. Progestero...
