چکیده

In a Model Based Predictive Controller (MBPC) an optimal set of control signals over a deened time period is determined by predicting the future system behaviour and minimising a non-linear cost function. The signiicant amount of computations involved in a non-linear function optimisation often precludes fast control actions. A successive oo-equilibrium system linearisation approach is proposed here to enhance fast control action in a state space \Continuous-time Generalised Predictive Controller" (CGPC). This idea is also extended to achieve non-linear observations of the system states. It is shown from simulations of an inverted pendulum on a cart that this strategy is much more eeective than a non-linear CGPC in terms of control system analysis, control quality, computation demand and noise robustness.

Nonlinear Continuous-Time Generalised Predictive Control Through Successive System Linearisations

Non linear predictive control may require signiicant oo-line and on-line computations. This paper gives a nonlinear predictive control algorithm based on successive oo-equilibrium linearisation which requires less computation whilst accounting for nonlinear system behaviour. A nonlinear example (the pendulum and cart system) is used to show that the method provides a practical tradeoo between c...

Flexible, Rule-Based Constraint Model Linearisation

Nonlinear constraint satisfaction or optimisation models need to be reduced to equivalent linear forms before they can be solved by (Integer) Linear Programming solvers. A choice of linearisation methods exist. There are generic linearisations and constraint-specific, userdefined linearisations. Hence a model reformulation system needs to be flexible and open to allow complex and novel linearis...

Matroid Optimisation Problems with Nested Non-linear Monomials in the Objective Function

Recently, Buchheim and Klein [4] suggested to study polynomial-time solvable optimisation problems with linear objective functions combined with exactly one additional quadratic monomial. They concentrated on special quadratic spanning tree or forest problems. We extend their results to generalmatroid optimisation problems with a set of nested monomials in the objective function. The monomials ...

Response-Time-Optimised Service Deployment: MILP Formulations of Piece-wise Linear Functions Approximating Non-linear Bivariate Mixed-integer Functions

A current trend in networking and cloud computing is to provide compute resources at widely distributed sites; this is exemplified by developments such as Network Function Virtualisation. This paves the way for wide-area service deployments with improved service quality: e.g. user-perceived response times can be reduced by offering services at nearby sites. But always assigning users to the nea...

Global Exponential Stability of Hopfield-type Neural Networks with Time Delays

The paper is concerned with the improvement of sufficient conditions for the exponential stability of Hopfield-type neural networks displaying interaction delays. The results are based on a method obtained in our previous work that combines an idea suggested by Malkin for studying the absolute stability of a nonlinear system via their linearisations and a procedure proposed by Kharitonov for co...
