Multifiber Deterministic Streamline Tractography of the Corticospinal Tract Based on a New Diffusion Model: Part II

چکیده
We report new results for the second edition of the MICCAI DTI tractography challenge. We build upon a new model, termed Diffusion Directions Imaging, that describes the random motion of water molecules in fibrous tissues and we utilize it as an input to a multifiber deterministic tractography algorithm. We apply the method to track the corticospinal tract in two patients suffering from tumors at different stages, with and without tumor infiltration respectively.

Multifiber Deterministic Streamline Tractography of the Corticospinal Tract Based on a New Diffusion Model
In this paper, we build upon a new model, describing the random motion of water molecules in fibrous tissues, to develop a multifiber deterministic tractography algorithm. We apply this algorithm to track the corticospinal tract of the human brain, in both controls and patients with tumors.
متن کاملResolving crossings in the corticospinal tract by two-tensor streamline tractography: Method and clinical assessment using fMRI.
An inherent drawback of the traditional diffusion tensor model is its limited ability to provide detailed information about multidirectional fiber architecture within a voxel. This leads to erroneous fiber tractography results in locations where fiber bundles cross each other. This may lead to the inability to visualize clinically important tracts such as the lateral projections of the corticos...
متن کاملMotor pathway degeneration in young ataxia telangiectasia patients: A diffusion tractography study
BACKGROUND Our understanding of the effect of ataxia-telangiectasia mutated gene mutations on brain structure and function is limited. In this study, white matter motor pathway integrity was investigated in ataxia telangiectasia patients using diffusion MRI and probabilistic tractography. METHODS Diffusion MRI were obtained from 12 patients (age range: 7-22 years, mean: 12 years) and 12 typic...
متن کاملCorticospinal Tract Reconstruction with Deterministic Multi-fiber Tractography and Model-based Processing
The reconstruction of the corticospinal tract in the human brain is a clinically important task for both surgical planning and population studies. Diffusion MRI tractography provides an in-vivo and patientspecific technique for mapping the tract’s geometry; however, crossing fibers present a challenge for the standard tensor model. In this paper, we explore the use multi-fiber models that have ...
متن کاملCorticospinal MRI tractography in space-occupying brain lesions by diffusion tensor and kurtosis imaging methods
Department of Neurosurgery, Hospital Garcia de Orta, Almada, Portugal Recently, DKI-based tractography has been developed, showing improved crossing-fiber resolution in comparison to deterministic DTI-based tractography in healthy subjects. In this work, DTI and DKI-based tractography methods were compared regarding the assessment of the corticospinal tract in patients presenting space-occupyin...
