Redshift Evolution of Galaxy Cluster

چکیده
The number of rich galaxy clusters per unit volume is a strong function of , the cosmological density parameter, and 8 , the linear extrapolation to z = 0 of the density contrast in 8h ?1 Mpc spheres. The CNOC cluster redshift survey provides a sample of clusters whose average mass prooles are accurately known, which enables a secure association between cluster numbers and the ltered density perturbation spectrum. We select from the CNOC cluster survey those EMSS clusters with bolometric L x 10 45 erg s ?1 and a velocity dispersion exceeding 800 km s ?1 in the redshift ranges 0.18-0.35 and 0.35-0.55. We compare the number density of these subsamples with similar samples at both high and low redshift. Using the Press-Schechter formalism and CDM style structure models, the density data are best described with 8 ' 0:75 0:1 and ' 0:4 0:2 (90% conndence). The cluster dynamical analysis gives = 0:2 0:1 for which 8 = 0:95 0:1 (90% conndence). The predicted cluster density evolution in an = 1 CDM model exceeds that observed by more than an order of magnitude.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملThe K band galaxy luminosity functions of three massive high redshift clusters of galaxies
The K band galaxy luminosity functions of three massive high redshift clusters of galaxies. ABSTRACT K band observations of the galaxy populations of three high redshift (z = 0.8–1.0), X-ray selected, massive clusters are presented. The observations reach a depth of K ≃ 21.5, corresponding to K * + 3.5 mag. The evolution of the galaxy properties are discussed in terms of their K band luminosity...
متن کاملEvolution of the Internal Dynamics of Galaxy Clusters
We consider a sample of 51 distant galaxy clusters at 0.15 ∼< z ∼< 0.9 (< z >∼ 0.3), each cluster having at least 10 galaxies with available redshift in the literature. We select member galaxies, analyze the velocity dispersion profiles, and evaluate in a homogeneous way cluster velocity dispersions and virial masses. We apply the same procedures already recently applied on a sample of nearby c...
متن کاملDo star formation rates of galaxy clusters depend on mass?: blue/late-type fractions, total star formation rates of 115 galaxy clusters as a function of cluster virial mass
There has been plenty of observational evidence of cluster galaxy evolution such as the Butcher-Oemler effect and the decrease in S0 fraction with increasing redshift. As a modern version, the redshift evolution of total star formation rate (SFR) in clusters has been actively debated recently. However, these studies of redshift trend have been always hampered by the possible mass dependence; du...
متن کاملEccentricity Evolution in Simulated Galaxy Clusters
Strong cluster eccentricity evolution for z ≤ 0.13 has appeared in a variety of observational data sets. We examine the evolution of eccentricity in simulated galaxy clusters using a variety of simulation methodologies, amplitude normalizations, and background cosmologies. We do not find find significant evolution for z < 0.1 in any of our simulation ensembles. We suggest a systematic error in ...

We have used the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on the HST to obtain optical imaging of a sample of 8 galaxy clusters in the redshift range 0.8 < z < 1.3. The ACS data provides accurate photometry and the ACS high angular resolution makes it possible to obtain crucial morphological information of the cluster galaxy populations. These data are supported by X-ray observations and by ground bas...
