The Triangulated Irregular Network

چکیده
Our first motive for this research stems from problems with traditional terrain representations which were recognized as early as 1967 by Boehm. Topographic surfaces are non-stationary (Pike and R-ozema, 1975), i.e., the roughness of the terrain is not periodic but changes from one landtype to another. A regular grid therefore has to be adjusted to the roughest terrain in the mod'el and be highly redundant in smooth terrain. It is apparent that, if one is to model these non-stationary surfaces accurately and efficiently, one must use a method which adapts to this variation. The second principal motivation came from a realization

Triangulated Irregular Network Model from Mass Points
Digital Terrain Modeling, the Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) is a representation of a surface derived from irregularly spaced sample points and break line features. Paper deals with the basic concept of Delauney’s triangulation method with its practical approach in ArcGIS. The next section describes the process to convert mass points to TIN model and explores some of the basics of TIN Mod...
متن کاملThe vertex-adjacency dual of a triangulated irregular network has a Hamiltonian cycle
Triangulated irregular networks (TINs) are common representations of surfaces in computational graphics. We define the dual of a TIN in a special way, based on vertex-adjacency, and show that its Hamiltonian cycle always exists and can be found efficiently. This result has applications in transmission of large graphics datasets.
متن کاملExtracting terrain morphology - a new algorithm and a comparative evaluation
We consider the problem of extracting morphology of a terrain represented as a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). We propose a new algorithm and compare it with representative algorithms of the main approaches existing in the literature to this problem.
متن کاملAlgorithms for Triangulated Terrains
Digital elevation models can represent many types of geographic data. One of the common digital elevation models is the triangulated irregular network (also called TIN, or polyhedral terrain, or triangulated terrain). We discuss ways to represent a TIN in a data structure, and give some of the basic algorithms that work on TINs. These include retrieving contour lines, computing perspective view...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Algorithms for Morse Decompositions on Triangulated Terrains
We consider the problem of extracting the morphology of a terrain represented as a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). Our reference framework to model terrain morphology is given by the descending and the ascending Morse complexes, which define a decomposition of the terrain through its critical points and integral lines. We review several algorithms proposed in the literature to extract des...
