چکیده

The counting losses introduced by the dead time of a counting system are a limiting factor in counting measurements. The purpose of this work is to report an efficient method for the measurement of the effective dead time of a counting system and to characterize its dead time behavior, providing a way to investigate each experimental situation. The method, which we designate as Delayed and Mixed Pulses method, is based on the artificial piling-up of detector pulses with electronic pulses delayed by a specific time interval. It is applicable to the measurement of the effective dead time of a counting system, including both pile-up effects and the dead time characteristics of the elements of the counting chain. With counting systems relying on gaseous radiation detectors, we achieved a standard uncertainty of about 5–10% in the dead times measured. # 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Optimization of measurement counting time in Gamma-ray spectrometry of soil samples

The method of optimal measurement counting time in Gamma spectrometry for soil samples was studied. Gamma spectrometry was done based on minimum detectable activity using the HPGe- p type with efficiency of 30% and FWHM 1.7keV (for 1.33 MeV 60Co). The samples were IAEA-RG Th-1, IAEA-RGU-1 and IAEA-RGK-1 prepared in bottles. The measurements were done for 12 different counting times from 5 min t...

Performance of the Zero-Dead-Time Mode of the DSPEC Plus

Gamma ray spectroscopy systems have dead time losses during data collection due to pulse processing in the electronics. Several methods have been developed in the past to recover from dead time losses. These include live-time clocks and loss-free counting. The live-time clock (LTC) extension technique (where the counting time is extended to compensate for the lost counts) gives accurate results...

Measurement of radium micro-precipitates using alpha spectrometry and total alpha counting methods

Background: This study consists of two parts. The first part deals with both qualitative and quantitative analysis of 226Ra using alpha spectrometry measurement method. In the second part, the percentage of radioactive equilibrium between 226 Ra and its daughter products were determined by alpha spectrometry and total alpha measurement system after elapsed time of 15 days from precipitation. Ma...

A method for bubble volume measurement under constant flow conditions in gas–liquid two-phase flow

Measuring the volume of a bubble, especially at its detachment, is a basic subject in gas-liquid two-phase flow research. A new indirect method for this measurement under constant flow conditions is presented. An electronic device is designed and constructed based on laser beam intensity. This device calculates the frequency of the bubble formation by measuring the total time of the formation p...

High-rate dead-time corrections in a general purpose digital pulse processing system

Dead-time losses are well recognized and studied drawbacks in counting and spectroscopic systems. In this work the abilities on dead-time correction of a real-time digital pulse processing (DPP) system for high-rate high-resolution radiation measurements are presented. The DPP system, through a fast and slow analysis of the output waveform from radiation detectors, is able to perform multi-para...
