What Is the Composition of the Moon’s Lower Crust?
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: The lower crust of the Moon remains a critical unknown for models of lunar compositional mass balance and for models of petrogenesis of lunar rock types. Key questions addressed here are (1) how mafic are the rocks of the lower crust and (2) are they ferroan or magnesian? Answers to these questions bear on the concentration and distribution of radiogenic heat-producing elements and as such, play an important role in understanding lunar magmatism and volcanism.

Petrography, geochemistry and petrogenesis of Damavand volcano: Comparison of different volcanic generations
1-Introduction Damavand volcano was formed by explosive and non-explosive eruptions on the old eroded rock units (Mesozoic and older) of Central Alborz during the Quaternary period and formed two huge cone (Old and Young Damavand). Davidson et al. (2004) determined the time of Old-Damavand activity from 1800 to 800 thousand years ago by measuring Ar/Ar and U-Th/He methods. According to their ...
متن کاملLunar Rocks
The Moon, like the Earth, is made of rocks. To learn about the Moon and its history, one has to learn something about lunar rocks—what they are made of, how they are studied and classified, and how our experiences in interpreting rocks on the Earth have been applied to rocks on the Moon. The lunar samples have provided our only direct information about the Moon’s minerals, chemical composition,...
متن کاملبررسی ژئوشیمیایی، کانی شناسی و سنگزایی سنگهای آداکیتی جنوب شرق جلفا (شمالغرب ایران)
Composition of the Kiyamaki dome has mostly dacite and granodiorite in rims, with SiO2 contents ranging from 64 to 73 wt% and Mg# values ranging from 27 to 57. These rocks are high-Si adakite. Geochemical characteristics and Sr and Nd isotopic rates indicate that the rocks of Kiyamaki dome are a post-collisional adakite. Combined geochemical and Sr–Nd isotope data suggest that the Kiyamaki adak...
متن کاملChemical Variation of Tourmaline and Source of Hydrothermal Solutions in Nezam Abad W-(Sn) Ore Deposit, Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone, West-Central Iran
Tourmalinization characterizes the most pervasive alteration type in the Nezam Abad ore deposit, west-central Iran. It delineates high-temperature centers of mineralization and together with quartz and cassiterite form inner parts of the alteration halo. The composition of tourmalines plots mostly along and between the proton and alkali-deficient end members. Tourmaline in quartzdioritic host i...

The studied area located in south and south western Arak town and are the part of Sanadaj-Sirjan Zone. The plutonic rocks in Astaneh and Boroujerd areas are quartz diorite, granodiorite and monzogranite. In addition to plutonic rocks, subvolcanic rocks of rhyodacite composition are present in Astaneh area. In general, in these areass mineral assemblage is the same in different units. The common...
