Oscillatory Model of Short Term Memory

چکیده

of the system. We regard this result as very signicant, in view of the fact that the same holds for the limited psychological ability of attention and STM. It may indicate that the oscillatory model contains the key to the understanding of these psychological ndings. In order to validate the hypothesis that STM is based on oscillatory correlations between ring rates of neurons, some more experimental neurobiological and psy-chophysical research is required. While no conclusive results were yet obtained from recordings of the cortical activity in the monkey, some positive support has been obtained in psychophysical experiments. Preliminary results show that an oscillatory component can be found in the percentage of correct responses in STM matching experiments (Usher & Sagi 1991). Our mathematical model is based on many specic assumptions. We believe that our main results are characteristic of a class of such models which can be obtained by changing various elements in our system. The main point is that dynamical storage of information can be achieved through staggered oscillations of memory activities. Moreover, to sustain them in the absence of an external input, a poten-tiation capability has to be present. A model which contains both should be able to accomodate STM in the fashion which we have demonstrated.

Effects of exercise on spatial memory deficits induced by nucleus basalis magnocellularis lesions

Introduction: Previous studies have shown that exercise enhances cognitive and functional capacities in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, we investigated the effect of long-term (60 days) and short- term (10 days) exercise on the spatial memory deficits in an animal model of AD. Methods: Fifty male rats were divided into 5 groups 1) intact, 2) sham, 3) sham-Alzheimer 4) ...

An Oscillatory Hebbian Network Model of Short-Term Memory

Recurrent neural architectures having oscillatory dynamics use rhythmic network activity to represent patterns stored in short-term memory. Multiple stored patterns can be retained in memory over the same neural substrate because the network's state persistently switches between them. Here we present a simple oscillatory memory that extends the dynamic threshold approach of Horn and Usher (1991...

Comparison of short term memory function among healthy group and type1 of diabetic patients

Abstract Background: Diabetes is a common disease that is characterized by hyperglycemia or High blood sugar. Central neuropathic is one of the most common Diabetic complications. The increase of blood sugar levels can cause adverse effects on cognitive functions such as information processing speed, memory, and the learning. The aim of this study was to assess short term memory function in pa...

The effect of intrahippocampal microinjection of Naloxone on short –term and long-term memory in adult male rats

Introduction:The hippocampus is one for the major centers of learning and memory. Role of the opioid system has been investigated and on the other hand receptors related to this system such as mu-opioid receptors (MOR) are extended in the hippocampus. In this study the effect of Naloxone administration as a mu opioid receptor antagonist on passive avoidance memory in adult male rats was i...
