چکیده

Rectal biopsy is useful in the diagnosis of both inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions of the bowel (Gear and Dobbins, 1968). A forceps technique is of most value in the diagnosis of carcinoma and other circumscribed lesions (Gabriel, Dukes, and Bussey, 1951). For the study of diffuse mucosal lesions a suction biopsy technique is preferable to forceps biopsy because it allows better microanatomical orientation of the biopsy specimen. A suction biopsy instrument described briefly by Dick and Grayson (1961) has proved convenient for this purpose and is being increasingly used. A detailed description of this instrument and its mode of use is, therefore, reported here.

A paediatric tube and capsule for suction biopsy of the small intestinal mucosa designed for direct nasogastric intubation.

The use of a modified paediatric tube and capsule for suction biopsy of the mucosa of the small intestine is discussed. The tube is small in diameter and can be introduced through the nose without local trauma and with minimal discomfort. The intubation technique was followed in 72 instances to obtain suction biopsies from the proximal mucosa of the small intestine in protein-calorie malnourish...

Clinical evaluation of the histochemical diagnosis of Hirschsprung's disease.

The histochemical staining of suction rectal biopsies for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity is a safe and accurate diagnostic tool in the management of patients with symptoms and signs of Hirschsprung's disease. In this study 101 patients who have undergone AChE analysis of suction rectal biopsies are presented in order to correlate histochemical findings with subsequent clinical course afte...
