A Ticking Clock: Performance Analysis of a Circadian Rhythm with Stochastic Process Algebra
نویسنده
چکیده
We apply performance analysis techniques to a biological modelling problem, that of capturing and reproducing the Circadian rhythm. A Circadian rhythm provides cells with a clock by which to regulate their behaviour. We consider two distinct stochastic models of the Circadian rhythm – one unbounded and the other bounded. We consider a fluid approximation of the models, and, by conversion to a set of ordinary differential equations, we are able to reproduce the correct rhythm. We show that with a bounded model, the clock phase can be affected by modifying the ability to manufacture some proteins.

Effects of Circadian Rhythm on Physical and physiological Performance of Military forces- Narrative Review
The 2017 Nobel Prize for medicine was awarded the biological clock Scientist, which shows the importance of this phenomenon in the life of living organisms. The circadian Rhythm (CR) through the created internal “clock” is responsible for regulating the daily performance of different organs of the body. The central body clock is the key factor to creating and maintaining this CR. External optic...
متن کاملStochastic Process Algebra Models of a Circadian Clock
We present stochastic process algebra models of a Circadian clock mechanism used in many biological organisms to regulate time-based behaviour. We compare modelling techniques from different modelling paradigms, PEPA and stochastic π-calculus.
متن کاملThe circadian clock starts ticking at a developmentally early stage.
Although overt diurnal rhythms of behavior do not begin until well after birth, molecular studies suggest that the circadian clock may begin much earlier at a cellular level: mouse embryonic fibroblasts, for example, already possess robust clocks. By multiple criteria, we found no circadian clock present in mouse embryonic stem cells. Nevertheless, upon their differentiation into neurons, circa...
متن کاملEffect of Circadian Rhythm on Antiulcer Activity of Hydroxyzine in Cold Stress Induced Ulcer in Wistar Albino Rats
Circadian rhythms are driven by endogenous clock gene and affects in several gastric parameters causing ulcerogenesis. The study was aimed to evaluate the time dependent antiulcer activity of hydroxyzine in cold-stress-induced ulcer model. The ulcer protection effect of hydroxyzine was studied at various time intervals (9 am, 1 pm, 5 pm, 91 pm, 1 am and 5 am) in cold stress ulcer model using wi...
متن کاملThe ticking clock of Cayo Santiago macaques and its implications for understanding human circadian rhythm disorders
The circadian clock disorders in humans remain poorly understood. However, their impact on the development and progression of major human conditions, from cancer to insomnia, metabolic or mental illness becomes increasingly apparent. Addressing human circadian disorders in animal models is, in part, complicated by inverse temporal relationship between the core clock and specific physiological o...
