چکیده

Aim: The purpose of the study was to compare the apical seal produced by Zinc oxide eugenol sealer, calcium hydroxide based sealer (Metapex), Glass ionomer root canal sealer (Ketac Endo) and epoxy resin root canal sealer (AH Plus). Materials and methods: Biomechanical preparation using step back technique and irrigation with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite was done on 120 extracted, single rooted, non carious anterior teeth. The teeth were divided into four groups of 30 teeth each and roots filled with Zinc oxide eugenol, Metapex, Ketac Endo or AH Plus sealer. After decalcification and clearing process, level of dye leakage was measured using stereomicroscope and statistically analysed. Results: The results of the study revealed that all the specimens showed some leakage. The mean dye penetration values of Group I (Zinc oxide eu2enol), Group II (Metapex), Group III (Ketac Endo) and Group IV (AR Plus) were 1.39 mm, I.15 mm, 0.422 mm and 0.60 mm respectively. Conclusion: The present study concluded that Ketac Endo provides the best seal when compared with Zinc oxide eugenol, Metapex and AH Plus root canal sealers. Clinical Significance: The primary goal of successful endodontic therapy is complete obliteration of the root canal space which can be achieved by three dimensional obturation of the canal space. Previous studies have shown that lateral condensation of gutta percha and sealer can provide an adequate apical seal. The study enabled us to know the comparative sealing efficacy of different sealing materials employed and hence guide us towards better treatment results.

Evaluation of Apical Microleakage of Teeth Sealed with Four Different Root Canal Sealers

OBJECTIVES To compare the apical sealing ability of four root canal sealers. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty extracted human maxillary canines were instrumented 1 mm short of the anatomical apex and randomly assigned to four groups (n=10), according to the root canal sealer used for obturation: Endofill, AH Plus, EndoREZ and Epiphany. Root canals were obturated with gutta-percha points, except for...

Retreatment efficacy 3 months after obturation using glass ionomer cement, zinc oxide-eugenol, and epoxy resin sealers.

The efficacy of ultrasonic retreatment, 3 months after obturation, in conjunction with Ketac-Endo, Roth's 801, and AH26 sealers was evaluated. Seventy-two root canals were prepared and obturated with gutta-percha and one of the sealers mentioned above. After 90 days, the canals were retreated by an ultrasonic technique and the retreatment time was recorded. The roots were split and the amount o...

بررسی آزمایشگاهی جهش‌زایی و سمیت سلولی چهار سیلر مختلف کانال ریشه

Background and Aim: Root filling materials are usually in close contact with living tissues. So their biological properties like mutagenicity and cytotoxicity are important. These properties help us determine the potential damage to periapical tissues, or potential DNA mutations, and malignant transformation of the cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mutagenicity and cytotoxicity o...

Influence of Er:YAG laser irradiation on apical sealing of four different sealers.

The sealing of the root canal system is of fundamental importance for successful endodontic treatment. To obtain an adequate apical seal, many factors must be considered such as the presence of smear layer and the sealer applied. After canal preparation, this layer must be removed because it prevents close contact between the dentinal walls and the sealing material. The goal of this study was t...

Efficacy of ProTaper retreatment system in root canals filled with gutta-percha and two endodontic sealers.

This study evaluated the efficacy of ProTaper Universal rotary retreatment system and hand files for filling material removal during retreatment and the influence of sealer type on the presence of filling debris in the reinstrumented canals. The canals of 60 palatal roots of first molars were obturated with gutta-percha and either a zinc oxide-eugenol-based or a resin-based sealer and reinstrum...
