Interactions Between Working Memory, Reinforcement Learning and Effort in Value-Based Choice: A New Paradigm and Selective Deficits in Schizophrenia

چکیده

RLWM Model RLWM includes two modules, a classic incremental RL module with learning rate a, and a WM module that can learn in a single trial (learning rate 1) but is capacity-limited (with capacity K). The WM module is also subject to forgetting. The final action choice is controlled by weighing the contributions of the RL and WM modules’ policies. How much weight is given to WM relative to RL (the mixture parameter) depends on two factors. First, it depends on what the probability is that a stimulus is stored in WM of capacity K. If there are fewer stimuli than WM can hold (nS<=K), then that probability is 1. Otherwise, only K out of ns can be stored. Second, the overall reliance of WM vs. RL is scaled by factor 0<r<1, with higher values reflecting relative greater confidence in WM function. Thus, the weight given to the WM policy relative to RL policy is w = r x min(1, K/nS).

Interactions Among Working Memory, Reinforcement Learning, and Effort in Value-Based Choice: A New Paradigm and Selective Deficits in Schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND When studying learning, researchers directly observe only the participants' choices, which are often assumed to arise from a unitary learning process. However, a number of separable systems, such as working memory (WM) and reinforcement learning (RL), contribute simultaneously to human learning. Identifying each system's contributions is essential for mapping the neural substrates co...

The Effectiveness of Cognitive Rehabilitation on Improving Cognitive Deficits (Attention and Memory) in Patients With Chronic Schizophrenia Based on Cognitive Levels

Introduction: Cognitive deficits have been recognized as a core feature of schizophrenia, which is directly associated with the functional and social outcomes of this disorder. Cognitive remediation therapy aims to improve the deficits and the following outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive remediation therapy on attention and working memory in tw...

P58: Visual Working Memory Performance Based on Saccades in Children with and without Specific Learning Disorder: An Eye-Tracking Study

Some of the previous studies show that children with SLD have deficits in visual processing and working memory. Hence, the aim of this research was to investigate problems of visual working memory based on behavioral neuroscience method, using an eye tracker device. The method of present study was ex-post facto study. The participants included couple of twelve children with SLD (mean age=10.92)...

P83: Role of Neuregulin 3 Genes Expression on Attention Deficits in Schizophrenia

Genetic epidemiological studies strongly suggest that additive and interactive genes, each with small effects, mediate the genetic vulnerability for schizophrenia. With the human genome working draft at hand, candidate gene (and ultimately large-scale genome-wide) association studies are gaining renewed interest in the effort to unravel the complex genetics of schizophrenia. Linkage and fine ma...
