Source of PDV and PPV infected tissues

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Prune dwarf ilarvirus (PDV) and its various strains cause many types of stone fruit diseases of considerable economic importance (Nemeth, 1986). The virus induces considerable damage in many hosts either by itself or in a mixed infection with other stone fruit viruses. PDV is transmitted naturally by infected pollen. PDV has worldwide distribution, especially where sweet and sour cherry are cultivated. Plum pox disease, Sharka, is caused by Plum pox potyvirus (PPV) (Dunez and Sutic, 1988; Hadidi and Candresse, 2001). Sharka, is the most important viral disease of stone fruit diseases in Europe and the Mediterranean region because of reduced fruit quality, premature fruit drop, rapid natural spread by aphid vectors, and rapid decline and death of trees when co-infected with other viruses. During the last decade, PPV has been reported also from South and North America (Hadidi and Candresse, 2001). Introduction of PDV and PPV through the international and national movement of stone fruit cultivars and germplasm to local stone fruit industry is of concern to federal and local governments. For this reason, effective control measures of PDV and PPV must be established to safely introduce stone fruit cultivars and/or germplasm that are free of PDV and/or PPV to prevent serious losses to the local stone fruit industry and significantly reduce PDV and/or PPV infection to stone fruits in countries where either virus is present.

The Influence of Viral Infections on Antioxidant Levels in the Genetically Modified Plum Variety “honeysweet“ (prunus Domestica L.)
It is well-known that polyphenolic compounds are found abundantly in fruit, but various kinds of diseases lower these levels. This work measures total polyphenolic content, antioxidant activity and the levels of specific important antioxidants in fruits of the genetically modified (GM) plum variety HoneySweet, trees which were previously inoculated with a range of different virus infections. Th...
متن کاملDetection of phocid distemper virus RNA in seal tissues using slot hybridization and the polymerase chain reaction amplification assay: genetic evidence that the virus is distinct from canine distemper virus.
Slot hybridization and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) after reverse transcription (RT) were used to detect RNA extracted from tissues of seals after naturally occurring disease and experimental infection with phocid distemper virus (PDV). A phosphoprotein (P) gene-specific cDNA served as a probe for both slot hybridization and the identification of PCR-generated fragments by Southern blott...
متن کاملPhocine Distemper Virus in Seals, East Coast, United States, 2006
In 2006 and 2007, elevated numbers of deaths among seals, constituting an unusual mortality event, occurred off the coasts of Maine and Massachusetts, United States. We isolated a virus from seal tissue and confirmed it as phocine distemper virus (PDV). We compared the viral hemagglutinin, phosphoprotein, and fusion (F) and matrix (M) protein gene sequences with those of viruses from the 1988 a...
متن کاملCatabolism through the threonine dehydrogenase pathway does not account for the high first-pass extraction rate of dietary threonine by the portal drained viscera in pigs.
In pigs the extensive threonine utilization by the splanchnic tissues explains the relative inefficiency of dietary threonine conversion for body protein accretion. Two experiments were conducted to estimate the contribution of the portal drained viscera (PDV) and the liver to threonine metabolism and especially catabolism in growing pigs. In the first experiment, four pigs were surgically prep...
متن کاملPlum pox in north america: identification of aphid vectors and a potential role for fruit in virus spread.
ABSTRACT Thirteen aphid species were tested for their ability to transmit Pennsylvania isolates of Plum pox virus (PPV) collected in Columbia (PENN-3), Franklin (PENN-4), and York (PENN-7) Counties, PA. Four species, Aphis fabae, A. spiraecola, Brachycaudus persicae, and Myzus persicae, consistently transmitted PPV in preliminary transmission tests. Two species, Metopolophium dirhodum and Rhopa...
