Detecting Mycoplasma Mastitis
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Mycoplasmas are normal inhabitants of the upper respiratory airways, urinary and genital tracts, and the digestive system; however, they can become infectious and cause high impact diseases in dairy herds including mastitis and metritis. In dairy cattle, Mycoplasma bovis is the most commonly isolated mycoplasma species (spp.). This species is very invasive and capable of colonizing different organs including the ear canal, the joints and the udder. Other species such as Mycoplasma californicum and bovigenitalium are also common pathogens in dairy cattle. Mycoplasma spp. cause disease in cattle of all ages; in calves for example, they cause pneumonia, arthritis, and otitis. In dairy heifers and cows, they cause clinical and subclinical mastitis, metritis, and pneumonia.

Isolation and Characterization of Mycoplasma mycoides Subspecies capri from Milk of Natural Goat Mastitis Cases
Association of Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies capri (Mmc) with natural goat mastitis has been studied earlier largely by detecting the Mmc DNA using molecular methods. However, report on detection of cultivable Mmc isolates from natural goat-mastitis milk is still very rare. In this study, Mmc was isolated from milk samples (n = 171) of goats with or without clinical signs of mastitis. Mmc isol...

A simplified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed for fast and easy screening of mycoplasma mastitis in dairy cattle. Species of major mycoplasma strains [Mycoplasma (M.) bovis, M. arginini, M. bovigenitalium, M. californicum, M. bovirhinis, M. alkalescens and M. canadense] in cultured milk samples were detected by this simplified PCR-based method as well as a standard PCR techni...
متن کاملEvaluation of effects of Mycoplasma mastitis on milk composition in dairy cattle from South Australia
BACKGROUND Mycoplasma mastitis is increasingly posing significant impact on dairy industry. Although the effects of major conventional mastitis pathogens on milk components has been widely addressed in the literature, limited data on the effects of different Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma spp. on milk quality and quantity is available. The aim of this study was to determine the casual relationship...

Mycoplasma Mastitis: Facts Every Producer Should Know With the ongoing expansion of dairy operations and the rapid transit of heifers across the U.S., Mycoplasma mastitis has become a herd health issue that no one can afford to ignore. No effective treatment exists for this form of mastitis and infected cows are considered positive for life. An opportunistic organism, Mycoplasma bovis frequentl...
متن کاملMycoplasmal mastitis in dairy cows in the Moghan region of Ardabil State, Iran.
Mycoplasmas are an important and economically significant cause of mastitis in dairy cows in various parts of the world. The organisms are highly contagious, with the main reservoir of infection originating from cows with subclinical mastitis. In 1998 the 1st cases of bovine mastitis due to Mycoplasma bovis were diagnosed in Ardabil State, Iran. An investigation was carried out with the aim of ...
