چکیده
This article gives a short and personal portrait of Ernst Hadorn (1902-1976), one of the most influential developmental biologists in Europe. Hadorn initially worked with amphibia, but then soon turned to Drosophila where he very successfully studied lethal factors and the development of imaginal disks.

B Y 1965 it was evident that the reductionist approach of molecular biology to complex biological phenomena was proving remarkably effective, at least as applied to bacteria and their viruses. The basic mechanisms underlying the genetic control of cellular processes seemed sufficiently well understood for JACQUES MONOD to proclaim that what is true for Escherichia coli is true for elephants. S...
متن کاملHost - transplant Interactions in Biosynthesis of Drosophila Pteridines
A SERIES of fluorescent pteridines may be revealed and separated by paper chromatography (Hadorn & Mitchell, 1951) from various organs of Drosophila in which they appear in high concentrations. Striking differences in the quantities and in the developmental patterns of these compounds are produced by a variety of gene mutations. While the chemical analysis of the fluorescent substances is rapid...

Dr. Theodore T. Puck, a pioneer in mammalian cell culture, somatic cell genetics, and the study of human genetic diseases, passed away in 2005. In tribute to Dr. Puck, In Vitro Cellular and Developmental Biology-Animal presents invited remembrances from four colleagues whose associations with Dr. Puck spanned 51 years.

THE Genetics Society of America's Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education recognizes significant and sustained impact on genetics education. As well as having made major contributions to biochemistry and developmental genetics, the 2016 awardee William B. Wood has been a pioneer in the reform of science teaching. Wood's leadership has been crucial in several national initiatives an...
