چکیده

Within the framework of radiation protection or internal radiotherapy, one of the major stakes is to determine in a most realistic possible way the dose received by every patient. In this purpose, a tool called OEDIPE, French acronym for “tool for personalized internal dose assessment”, was developed at IRSN associating numerical voxelized phantoms, created with anatomical images, and Monte Carlo calculation. After a presentation of the principal functionalities two examples illustrating the potential detailed demonstrating the interest and the potenrial of the software OEDIPE in case of internal contamination and in internal radiotherapy leads.

OEDIPE : A Personalised Internal Dosimetric Tool Associating Voxel- Based Phantoms with Monte Carlo Calculation for Nuclear Medicine

In nuclear medicine and particularly in internal radiotherapy, one of the major challenges is to determine the dose for each patient. Current internal dosimetric estimations are based on the Medical Internal Radiation Dose (MIRD) formalism and use standard mathematical models. These standard models are often far from a given patient morphology and do not allow to perform patient-specific dosime...

Application of voxel phantoms to study the influence of the heterogeneous distribution of actinides in lungs on in vivo counting using animal experiments

As part of the improvement of calibration techniques for in vivo counting, the Laboratory of Internal Dose Assessment of IRSN has developed a computer tool, “OEDIPE”, to model internal contamination in voxel phantoms, to simulate in vivo counting and to calculate internal dose. This software was used to model the real distribution of activity in the lungs of a baboon analyzed in the Laboratory ...

Effect of patient morphology on dosimetric calculations for internal irradiation as assessed by comparisons of Monte Carlo versus conventional methodologies.

UNLABELLED Dosimetric calculations are performed with an increasing frequency before or after treatment in targeted radionuclide therapy, as well as for radiation protection purposes in diagnostic nuclear medicine. According to the MIRD committee formalism, the mean absorbed dose to a target is given by the product of the cumulated activity and a dose-conversion factor, known as the S factor. S...

Radioiodine (131-I) treatment for Graves’ disease: Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation for patient personalized dose estimation

Background: Reliable estimation of radiation-absorbed dose is necessary to evaluate the benefits and the risks of radiopharmaceuticals used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in nuclear medicine. Materiel and Methods: This study included 47 patients treated with iodine-131 for Graves’ disease. A comparative study between Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation and MIRD formalism was carried out to ev...
