چکیده

IGR J19140+0951 was discovered by INTEGRAL in 2003 in the 4-100 keV band. Observations with INTEGRAL and RXTE provide a tentative identification as a high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) with a neutron star as accretor. However, an optical counterpart was thus far not established. Neither was the presence of a pulsar, which is commonly observed in HMXBs. We have observed IGR J19140+0951 with Chandra and find the source to be active at a similar flux as in previous measurements. The lightcurve shows a marginally significant oscillation at 6.5 ks which requires confirmation. We determine a sub-arcsecond position from the Chandra data and identify a heavily reddened optical counterpart in the 2MASS catalog. Optical follow-up observations with the William Herschel Telescope at La Palma exhibit a continuum spectrum coming out of extinction above 7000 Å without strong absorption or emission features. This and the red magnitudes suggest an early-type star rather than an accretion disk. All pieces of information confirm the suspicion that IGR J19140+0951 is a HMXB with additional circumstellar obscuration around the accretor.

The nature of the infrared counterpart of IGR J 19140 + 0951

The INTEGRAL observatory has been (re-)discovering new X-ray sources since the beginning of nominal operations in early 2003. These sources include X-ray binaries, Active Galactic Nuclei, cataclysmic variables, etc. Amongst the X-ray binaries, the true nature of many of these sources has remained largely elusive, though they seem to make up a population of highly absorbed high-mass X-ray binari...

Xss J 00564 + 4548 and Igr J 00234 + 6141 — New Cataclysmic Variables from Rxte and Integral All Sky Surveys

We present the results of optical identification of two X-ray sources from RXTE and INTEGRAL all sky surveys: XSS J00564+4548 and IGR J00234+6141. Using the optical data from Russian-Turkish 1.5-m Telescope (RTT150) and SWIFT X-ray observations, we show that these sources most probably are intermediate polars, i.e. binary systems with accreting white dwarfs with not very strong magnetic field (...

Peering through the stellar wind of IGR J19140+0951 with simultaneous INTEGRAL/RXTE observations

We have used the RXTE and INTEGRAL satellites simultaneously to observe the High Mass X-ray binary IGR J19140+0951. The spectra obtained in the 3–80 keV range have allowed us to perform a precise spectral analysis of the system along its binary orbit. The spectral evolution confirms the supergiant nature of the companion star and the neutron star nature of the compact object. Using a simple ste...

Identifications of Five Integral Sources via Optical Spectroscopy

The International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) is discovering hundreds of new hard X-ray sources, many of which remain unidentified. We report on optical spectroscopy of five such sources for which X-ray observations at lower energies (∼0.5–10 keV) and higher angular resolutions than INTEGRAL have allowed for unique optical counterparts to be located. We find that IGR J16426+653...

Infrared identification of IGR J09026−4812 as a Seyfert 1 galaxy

Context. IGR J09026−4812 was discovered by INTEGRAL in 2006 as a new hard X-ray source. Thereafter, an observation with Chandra pinpointed a single X-ray source within the ISGRI error circle, showing a hard spectrum, and improving its high-energy localisation to a subarcsecond accuracy. Thus, the X-ray source was associated to the infrared counterpart 2MASS J09023731−4813339 whose JHKS photomet...
