چکیده

epithelium. A preexisting permeability defect may trigger the expression of celiac sprue by allowing ingested gluten to cross the epithelial barrier and incite a pathologic immune reaction in genetically susceptible individuals. Thus, one possible explanation for an association between IJFT and celiac sprue is an underlying systemic permeability defect that is responsible for both increased gluten hypersensitivity in the gut and endothelial decompensation in the retina. As more patients with celiac sprue are identified, future investigations should disclose whether there is a true causal association between celiac sprue and IJFT.

Intracranial infantile hemangiomas associated with PHACE syndrome.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Head and neck infantile hemangiomas are common lesions that are rarely observed in an intracranial location. We report 4 patients with orbital infantile hemangiomas and ipsilateral enhancing intracranial lesions, presumed to be infantile hemangiomas. METHODS Imaging studies and medical records of 4 infants with orbital hemangiomas and enhancing intracranial lesions were...

Lymphatic Malformation, Retinoblastoma, or Facial Cleft: Atypical Presentations of PHACE Syndrome

PHACE syndrome is a neurocutaneous disorder characterized by large cervicofacial infantile hemangiomas and associated anomalies: posterior fossa brain malformation, hemangioma, arterial cerebrovascular anomalies, coarctation of the aorta and cardiac defects, and eye/endocrine abnormalities of the brain. When ventral developmental defects (sternal clefting or supraumbilical raphe) are present th...

Association of hearing loss with PHACE syndrome.

BACKGROUND PHACE syndrome describes a spectrum of anomalies associated with large facial infantile hemangiomas and characterized by posterior fossa malformations, hemangiomas, arterial anomalies, coarctation of the aorta and cardiac defects, and eye abnormalities. With improved recognition and imaging practices of infants with PHACE syndrome, additional associations have been identified. To our...

Infantile Hemangiomas: A Disease Model in the Study of Vascular Development, Aberrant Vasculogenesis and Angiogenesis

Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) belong to a family of lesions called vascular anomalies. Vascular anomalies are classified into either vascular tumors or vascular malformations, with the IH being the most common vascular tumor, affecting approximately 5% of infants (Frieden, Haggstrom et al 2005). Despite their prevalence, the origin and pathogenesis of IHs remains poorly understood. Clinically, IH...
